USA Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022) (Shudder Original) - March 7th, 2023

RLJE / Shudder will be releasing Christmas Bloody Christmas on March 7th. The movie was written and directed by Joe Begos, who previously did VFW, and Bliss. I recently watched this via Shudder, and thought it was pretty fun, with some really excellent lighting, and visuals. Also, while it's considered a "Shudder Original" here in the US, it has already been released on Blu-ray, and 4K in Germany.

Quote:
It's Christmas Eve and fiery record store owner Tori Tooms just wants to get drunk and party, until the robotic Santa Claus at a nearby toy store goes haywire and makes her night more than a little complicated. Santa Claus begins a rampant killing spree through the neon drenched snowscape against a backdrop of drugs, sex, metal and violence, ultimately forcing Tori into a blood splattered battle for survival against the ruthless heavy metal Saint Nick himself.

Watched it a few nights ago, and enjoyed it. Will be adding it to my Christmas horror when it's released

Top 5 movie of 2022 for me. Possibly favorite Christmas horror ever?

I got the German mediabook because:

1. It was the only physical release at the time I ordered it.
2. I'll take a mediabook over a standard release 8 days a week.

Might snag this if it has bonus features/things the mediabook doesn't.

Will include this and Violent Night in next year's holiday viewings. Hopefully The Mean One gets a US release too.

First half of this movie was pretty cringey. Felt like they were trying to make Tarantino dialogue that was aimed for the boutique label crowd but without the wit.

That was my take as well but I liked the second half and alot of the other elements as well as the directors previous efforts.

The dialogue was obviously far from Tarantino level, but the actors did a great job delivering what they had. Their conversation still felt natural and not forced at all. It flowed convincingly well. This one sits very comfortably in my all time top five Christmas horror. I f’ing loved this movie. To me this was the great Silent Night, Deadly Night sequel we never got.

Watched the German UHD last week. Loved it. Bliss is still my favorite Begos film, but this one is great. It also gave me hardcore Hardware vibes, which is a big plus because Hardware happens to be one of my all-time favorites.

Yeah, the second half definitely made up for the first half.

Bliss is definitely my least favorite, but now your comment has me wanting to go back and give it another shot.

It seems to be a polarizing film, for sure. Personally, I love everything about it. I often watch it right before or right after Mandy. It makes for a wonderfully trippy double feature.

I agree, it's my favorite film of his by a pretty good margin, loved it all around.

I can highly, highly recommend that if anyone gets the chance to see the single 35mm print they struck of Bliss, you should take it.

This was entertaining enough for one watch, but I don't think I'd watch it again. I may still get it though.

I'm annoyed because Deadstream was my personal favorite Shudder movie this year It's not looking like they're going to do it at this point, they've already announced Blu-rays for 3 movies that have come out after that one premiered. Hopefully some other country releases it if not.

The first 30 minutes are dreadful. I actually stopped watching it about 30 minutes in, and I never do that. The dialogue was that bad. Some of the most annoying dialogue and characters I've ever seen in a film. My girlfriend agreed and we decided to quit and put something better on.

I decided a few days later to give it another chance on my own and started it where I left off, and just a few minutes later the action kicked in and it got a lot better quick. We quit just before it started to improve. I tend to have patience with films and I don't mind them taking their time to set things up, but the dialogue really was atrocious. But the last hour was pretty fun. It still didn't excuse the horrible dialogue in the first 1/3 of the film though.

The main actress ended up doing pretty well with the material actually. I just hated the dialogue.

I felt that this low budget affair wears its intentions on its sleeve and while those intentions may be admirable it quickly wears out its welcome by devoting most of the entire first half of the film to its uninspired characters and their insipid dialog which reads like something from a dollar store Rob Zombie script. The direction is mediocre at best and does the kills little justice. The one thing I did like was the use of light and color.

However, I'm glad others enjoyed it and I wish I liked it more.

No matter how many people say this, I will never understand or comprehend this criticism.

This dialogue is the most realistic and organic of any movie I saw in 2022. That's what drew me to this film so much. How real it felt, how it didn't feel like these two were even acting at all. The chemistry was off the charts and it just felt like hanging out with friends while viewing it.

Pretty much exactly how I felt. I was starting to think I was the only one who really enjoyed the hang out scenes at the beginning.

Could they have dropped a couple dozen f-bombs? Sure. It wouldn't have changed my opinion any because it didn't bother me as is, but I can see how that aspect got annoying for others.
