Paramount Primal Fear 4K UHD (1996) (Paramount Presents #43)

Paramount will be releasing Primal Fear on 4K UHD on March 26th! This will be part of the Paramounts Presents line. Pre-orders should be up soon.

Quote:
Defense attorney Martin Vail takes on jobs for money and prestige rather than any sense of the greater good. His latest case involves an altar boy, accused of brutally murdering the archbishop of Chicago. Vail finds himself up against his ex-pupil and ex-lover, but as the case progresses and the Church's dark secrets are revealed, Vail finds that what appeared a simple case takes on a darker, more dangerous aspect.

Hope they do this one right. It's a real favorite of mine. The original Blu-ray release was really exciting since the US DVD wasn't even anamorphic. As long as they don't do a "To Catch A Thief" job on this one, I'll be happy. Nice to see the PP line continue. It's slowed down a lot recently...

I sort of miss the days of when studios would do gimmicky things like that

Yikes, I'm mentally preparing myself for a case of Primal Encode 4k, just in case the fine folks that worked on The Firm 4k and The Core 4k get this one tossed onto their work-pile as well.

Please please paramount handle this carefully… I am feeling cautiously optimistic by that amazing cover alone

I thought this line was dead because there hasn’t been a PP announcement for quite some time. I’ll be picking this one up.

The 4k Dolby Vision version has been out for some time digitally and it looks great.

Should look even better on disc.

Just watched the blu ray a couple months ago. I’ll probably upgrade if the reviews are good.

I dont have this title on my top 1000 list for a 4k release, if you agree like this post.

The 4K on Apple with Dolby Vision has been out a few years…it looks pretty good. I imagine the disc will be fine.

The underlying scan looks fine. It’s simply gonna come down to whether they can keep their fingers away from the dnr settings, and not fudge the new 4k disc with a shyte encode. Fingers crossed.

By the time it's released it will only have been 4 1/2 months since the last PP title (Terms of Endearment) . Way to crank them out Paramount.

It's partly due to Paramount licensing their major stuff to boutique labels again. When the line first started, they were pulling back from labels like Criterion, and planning to be their own boutique label. That obviously didn't work out as well as they hoped, and so they started making deals with every boutique possible, Kino, Arrow, VinSyn, FCE, etc..

Just look at some of the notable titles that Kino, and Arrow were able to license, that could easily have been Presents titles years back

Escape from Alcatraz
Marathon Man
Gunfight at the O.K. Corral
3 Days of the Condor
The Longest Yard
Witness
The Warriors
The Shootist (BD)

Yup, one thing you can certainly never fault Paramount for is their continued willingness and aggressive participation in this 4k space, which has hugely benefitted collectors and boutiques alike. The vast bulk of upper-tier films in their back catalog will ultimately wind up enjoying releases in uhd, one way or another, undoubtedly.

Excellent news! I've been close to rewatching this a few times over the last year but held out because I had a feeling Paramount would be doing a 4K at some point soon
