Can someone please explain why so many British films of the 40's & 50's I have checked out on bluray.com, seem to have at least one rating of 1/10. Are all films given that rating automatically on their initial entrance to the database?
It certainly isn't an accurate opinion of these films from my experience, especially when I have looked at IMDB and other sources without finding a single one of them with a rating of less than 5/10. If it isn't automatic, then I can only surmise that there is one or several knuckle-draggers, who either have not seen the films they rated or who wouldn't know a good and often great film if it jumped up and kicked their teeth in. Even the worst British film in history would still be at least a 3/10. I would have said in the past that 1/10 would be reserved for maybe one film in 10,000 and likely just a TV movie, but since Hollywood entered the new millenium and with the advent of streaming services that value quantity over quality they have brought the average down significantly but that still wouldn't apply to British films in my non-British opinion. |
