Default Terminal Island (Vinegar Syndrome)

Quote:
This special limited edition embossed slipcover (designed by Earl Kess) is limited to 5,000 units and is only available here at VinegarSyndrome.com!

Carmen Simms has just been sentenced to death; that is, life imprisonment on Terminal Island - an island located miles off the mainland of California, which was created to house murderers and vicious criminals in the wake of prison overcrowding. With no guards, no cells, and no laws, Terminal Island has morphed into a defacto society, whose self-appointed leader, the tyrannical Bobby, rules with an iron first, using other inmates - particularly women - for his own brutal pleasures. As tension and violence mounts, Carmen finds her place as the unlikely leader of the island’s underground resistance, which is planning to overthrow Bobby’s reign of terror.

A cult movie masterpiece from acclaimed filmmaker Stephanie Rothman (The Working Girls, The Velvet Vampire), TERMINAL ISLAND wryly blends a violent action and survival film plot structure with commentary on the American justice system. Starring Phyllis Davis (Sweet Sugar), veteran TV actor Don Marshall (The Thing With Two Heads), and Emmy winner Tom Selleck (TV’s Magnum, P.I.) in one of his earliest roles, Vinegar Syndrome is proud to bring TERMINAL ISLAND to UHD and Blu-ray, in its first ever authorized disc release, newly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative.

directed by: Stephanie Rothman
starring: Phyllis Davis, Tom Selleck, Don Marshall, Ena Hartman, Roger E. Mosley, Don Marshall

I gladly pre-ordered this when it was revealed. Looks like a fun ride. Reminds me of Turkey Shoot or other similar movies, and it has 2 actors that end up in the Magnum P.I. show.

My August package has shipped from VS so I should be watching this soon. As with all my VS purchases, I will keep my expectations well tempered.

Not brilliant, not boring and always cruddy looking. Maybe 4K can bring out the natural beauty of this exotic location.

Just wrapped this up. I went in with low expectations but it kept my interest all the way through, whereas last night I fell asleep 40 minutes into Godzilla vs Kong. For what it is, I thought it looked good. There's some rough spots and you can spot a dissolve coming from a while away, but detail and texture abound and it is quite filmic. If you like blue, green, and brown, then this movie is for you since they're basically the only colors you will see. Out of all the VS UHD releases so far this one seems the most targeted to VS fans specifically. I don't think it will be for everyone. Anyway, I took a few pics:

The August Package is a savings of only $3 compared to the individual prices. Maybe I'll just go with Terminal Island, Meat Pies and Whatever It Takes. Are those other two movies in the package worthwhile?

Will Ford Fairlane ever come out from this outfit?

Terrific little film. Obviously the quality of the performances is all over the place, but the story and direction are at the high end of the exploitation films I've seen. The quality of the UHD is great. Really amazing to see this kind of film with this high quality of a 4k remaster.

I like this film, am glad to have it in 4k, but why release this when so many other GREAT films haven't had a 4k release, including my all-time favorite of Carpenter's THE THING? And of course others which would look fabulous remastered in 4k, which had poor blu-ray releases, almost 15 years ago, like SOYLENT GREEN, LOGAN'S RUN, and THE OMEGA MAN.... How long will we be waiting??
