Default Streaming movies getting Censored.

The latest victim of online censoring is THE FRENCH CONNECTION by Disney+.

Film fans are expressing their fury after a scene in The French Connection was censored without explanation.

Those watching William Friedkin’s 1971 drama on US streaming platform Criterion Channel were left confused by a clunky edit during a scene roughly 10 minutes into the film.

The sequence, set in the New York police precinct, features a conversation between detectives “Popeye” Doyle (Gene Hackman) and Buddy “Cloudy” Russo (Roy Scheider), in which the former utters a racial slur.

The six-second sequence has been completely removed, and the edited version instead cuts to midway through the pair’s conversation.

Those who purchased digital copies of the film are re-watching the scene back, and noticing that the copy they bought has also been amended to reflect the change.

In these cases you are watching someone else's copy and they can do whatever including deciding to not let you watch it anymore.

Physical media enthusiasts have been telling people this for years.

Some streaming copies accidentally use edited HDTV broadcast masters. Splash used the HDTV broadcast master on D+ until they updated it to 4k HDR and became the uncut theatrical version. If they truly had a "censoring bug" then the 4k HDR would have been edited as well. Ironically, the HD versions to rent/buy on other platforms are uncut.

Yes mix-ups like that are common. ''White Sands'' and ''Two If By Sea'' had edited versions on Amazon Prime for years until i contacted the studio that supplied the masters and they fixed it. A edited version of ''Cast A Deadly Spell'' is on Max and other digital services due to the fact that used a edited Canadian daytime tv HD master instead creating a new one.

Yes, we know that's how you feel. I'm fairly certain the Pope himself is aware of your thoughts on the matter.

Your right, I need to stay out of the Digital movies section.

I do have a lot of Digital movies though .... but still.

'However, the film remains unedited on Disney+ in the UK and Canada'

Good thing that was left out of the OP huh?
