Default Quickest Player outside a PS3

Hi,

I have a launch day 60gig PS3 as one of my Blu-ray players, and the other is a BDP-300..

Unfortunately, the BDP-300 is painfully too slow. Having to deal with the unresponsive controls and what seems ages upon ages startup is too much for me.. Especially when my games console fires up blu-rays a zillion times faster.

I'm on the latest firmware but I can't see it getting any better. This unit is a pile of ....... I'm going to sell it and get something else...

As it's in my hi-fi rack it needs to be a stand-alone, otherwise I'd bag another PS3... Therefore what is the best player out there, within a resonable price range that DOES NOT make you wait 5mins of frustration every time you want to kick back and watch a movie.

Thx

I have the bd30 and 60gb ps3 and you are looking at 10-20 seconds longer. maybe 30 seconds for a very very new release title but thats the longest i found my movies to be at and to put it in perspective i have 60 blu ray movies (dont look at the sig)

I have both. I think the PS3 is only slightly quicker at loading.

I have both and while I haven't timed them I haven't noticed a difference in any of the movies we've watched. In other words to the extent that it is slower it is not noticeably slower or rather it is not so slow that we have ever gotten frustrated with teh lenght of time for a movie to startup.

Lightbulb I have both

The Panny is very fast.

On a normal (non-BD-J) movie I can't tell a difference.

On a really intense one (like Pirates or Ratatouille) it is around 20 seconds slower, but it is light years ahead of all the other standalones I have ever used (Sony BDP-SQ, Sammy 1000, Panny BD10)

My Panny BD30 is marginally slower than my PS3.

+1 on all the comments about the more complex menu'd disks taking a little longer.

I've been able to compare load speeds of the Sony 300 and 500 players and hands down the BD30 is faster.

In short, the wait is bearable on a BD30. The Sony standalone load times call for writing a life story, getting coffee, etc.
