The question remains:

Is it a new transfer? Or is it just 'special' packaging?

Can't recall for certain, but was there an issue withe video transfer of the previous version? If so, I wonder if the new blu-ray will be given a new transfer.

Edit: Man, my typing speed is pathetic! You guys are on it.

I'll gladly double dip if this has been remastered and is in VC-1 or AVC instead of MPEG-2.

it better be frickin' remastered, the review here on this website isn't kind; a 'two' rating (out of five) is pretty crappy. Lossless audio would be acceptable this go 'round too.

I never bought the original release but always meant to. Now I just have an excuse to wait.

Excited.

Well if they don't do a new transfer for THIS edition than I think it's safe to say that they never will....which means my hold out for not buying this awesome film because of the lackluster current release will have to come to an end. I love this movie so I guess I'm just gonna bite the bullet and get this release regardless if it's the same/new transfer when it comes out. It's too good a movie to not have after the long wait.

I just know WB will pull the same thing they did with Goodfellas and Unforgiven - new packaging and/or features, but the same lazy transfer and lossy audio.

It says that it has a new featurette, so at the very least we know that they won't just re-use the disc from the previous edition.

I wish I could say that it also meant a new transfer, but there is the example of A Clockwork Orange..

It's a Remaster for sure, Warner has been working on it for quite some time...
I had created a thread about it!

Sounds like just a new featurette and pilot for a remake. Disappointed its not a digibook (at least it doesn't sound like it). Warner doesn't seem to be doing digibooks anymore, except for mediocre new releases as store exclusives.

This. I'll be happy with a new transfer and lossless audio though...
