I have never watched Cowboy Bebop but i have heard great things about it, and also some fans outrage that a movie was even being made, much less with Reeves in the lead. But its not all bad news...

Writer Peter Craig is a huge fan of the original animated series, and he spent some quality time with the original studio, Sunrise, talking about their take on the show and how it might convert to live-action. He mentions that he's a fan of many of the minor characters from the original episodes, namechecks a lot of story elements he loves:

"I've probably watched every episode at least three or four times now - and I really adore what a complete world Watanabe and Nobumoto created. I was also extremely drawn to all of the characters' backstories: Faye's amnesia after being taken out of cryogenic freeze, and the con played on her; Spike's history in the Syndicate and with Julia; Jet's days as a cop on Ganymede, and his run-in with Udai Taxim."

Lets hope for the best!

I don't think anybody is cool enough to play spike, wonder if they are gonna make his hair green.

Reeves may be able to pull it off, it's not too much of a stretch from his personality.

My concern is actually the other casting and the director. If we can get the "Firefly feel" with some dead-on additional casting, we may have a surprise.

Reeves was built for anime-based movies, both in body type and facial features. With a STRONG script, it could be good.

I'm a HUGE fan, and I will give it a chance, and will actually see it before passing judgement.

Asia Argento could fit the bill, but would have to drop the HEAVY accent and cover that tat.

I hope Reeves doesn't act wooden in his walking and fighting....Spike was always so fluid in his movements, I think that would be a challenge to overcome.

Yeah don't get me wrong, I think I might be one of the few that actually likes reeves. I will be excited to see it.

I picked Asia because she rocks!

Her face is similar and her body is great for Faye's outfit.

yeah the balance will be to get someone funny without be too over the top annoying....Edward was perfect in that role.
