More info soon...
Why does Universal rarely do 4Ks of their Blumhouse movies? For example, one of their biggest hits from last year The Black Phone was Blu-ray only and now M3GAN, which appears to be another hit, is also not getting a 4K.

I think Universal knows the demand and so waits a bit before Scream Factory releases UHDs

Yeah, unfortunately Universal and Blumhouse have a disconnect from UHD's except for Get Out and Us, so it's up to Shout Factory to release the 4K in months or years from now.

It’s really too bad - 4K is becoming more standard these days but Universal/Blumhouse doesn’t want to get on board I guess.

I hope they release an R-rated/unrated version.

Speaking of violent horror scenes, the theatrical cut of “M3GAN” is PG-13. How gory was your script originally?

No shade to Universal, love them, and I understand that once the trailer went viral, teenagers got involved and you want them to be able to see it. There should be an unrated version at some point. ... I heard it is on the books. But yes, it was way gorier. Her body count in the script was higher than in the movie. It wasn’t a Gabriel [in ‘Malignant’]-scale massacre, but she did kill a bunch more people, including a couple of characters whom James was like, “I like what you did with those people, but I want them to live.” I was merciless, but again, that is me. My humor is extremely dark.

Seeing the movie, it seemed like
[Show spoiler]the two co workers surviving were reshoots. The plot made more sense if they died there, and it was just a couple shots which showed them surviving (very easy to do in reshoots). Could also have seen M3gan killing some of the crowd gathered for the event rather than sneaking away
.

Hope the Blu has both cuts for sure.

It is obviously good to make money and people will feel annoyed/cheated regardless, but it'd be nice if they did
not wait too long and could release an R/unrated extended version to theaters and digital around the same time.

Just saw this. It was nowhere near as terrible as I thought it would be. So now I'm really interested in seeing a gnarlier cut if that in fact exists.

Saw it, loved the music, had a dope almost 70s musical score. Movie was fun and creepy in spots.

The reviews were spectacular for a horror film:

I agree, while I loved the theatrical cut, an R-rated cut would be even more fun.

Yeah it's so weird. It's not like this is MGM that never releases their own UHDs.

And Violent Night doesn't seem to be getting one, either. Ridiculous how, at the same time their theatrical slate for genre is ramping up (with M3GAN, Violent Night, Cocaine Bear, etc), they seem to be shying away from the UHD collector's market.

March 21st for Blu-ray; both PG-13 and Unrated cuts according to sources. No 4K planned at this time.
