Arrow Blaxploitation on Blu-ray

Stickin' it to The Man...in HD!
As where the boundaries of Blaxploitation are fluid and often open to interpretation, to forestall all the bickering, I used the Grindhouse Database, the Cinema of Soul database, and the list of Blaxploitation flicks on Wikipedia for movies between 1970 and about 1979.

Since this is the R1 forum, we're sticking to North American releases where I can. It's easy enough to click on the Other Releases button, if you really need the R2 release of Coffy. I also went with single releases where I could, like the three Shaft movies instead of the one big Warners bundle.

BLAXPLOITATION ON BLU

Arrow Blaxploitation on Blu-ray

Not Quite Blaxploitation, you dig?
These are movies that just fall outside the genre that are also of interest. Pre 70's Movies that influenced the genre, modern love letters, remakes, parody movies and so on:

Not sure if you wanna include newer films, but this is a great nod to those films of the '70s:

Super excited for the Across 110th Street and Cotton Comes to Harlem announcements from Kino. Hope this means that MGM will be licensing out more of their Soul Cinema line to them to release on blu.

Would love to see a Rudy Ray Moore box set from someone other than Xenon but let's be honest - those films will never look good in any format.

I'd put my most wanted list as:

Super Fly (I feel like Warner HAS to put this out at some point; would love a dual release with Super Fly TNT but that never even got a DVD release)
Coffy (BADLY needs an anamorphic transfer)
Hammer (ditto)
Black Belt Jones (my all-time favorite blaxploitation - just getting this on DVD took forever so not holding my breath)
Truck Turner

For now I suppose my DVDs will hold me over though.

It worked for me like this.

I used the "BD" tag/button and added space between the links. Should be able to quote my post and see it.

Thanks, but I am just focusing on Blaxploitation from the 'classic era'.

That did the trick, thanks. Annoyingly, there's no 'preview post' option for an edited post, so it took a bit of fiddling.

As far as predicting future BD possibilities, Sugar Hill, Truck Turner, Sheba Baby, Blacula, and Coffy have all been on MGMHD (along with I'm Gonna Get You Sucka). I'm not sure about any others.

I haven't seen much but I would love for Pam Grier's movies to be released on Blu-ray in the U.S. The woman was foxy and stunning in the early 70s.

They've also aired Black Caesar and Hell Up in Harlem.

Has anyone asked Kino on Facebook about the possibility of more Blaxploitation titles? They ignore my emails, as always.

I wish that weren't all. I'd really like to see Coffy, Bucktown, and Black Belt Jones at some point. Some of the most fun that I've seen.

I feel like if I said the title of my favorite blaxploitation film Id probably get banned for it but here is the DVD art which has been censored. Films like this should be respected and considered to be art.

Anyone familiar with MONKEY HUSTLE with Yaphet Kotto and Rudy Ray Moore? I've been trying to find out what song is playing in the background in the diner scene with Moore and Kotto. It plays in other scenes too when Moore is on screen without lyrics. I guess it's his theme song. Can anyone help?

Also, what's the deal with the DOLEMITE dvd set by Xenon? I haven't seen this films yet but really want to. Are the films in this set UNCUT, correct OAR ect...

I hope Arrow will release Coffy as well as Pam Grier's women-in-prison movies. Love my steel book of Foxy Brown.
