Universal Studios Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)

It looks like Universal will be putting out their own release of Halloween III: Season of the Witch on August 4th.

Seems kind of pointless considering it likely won't have any of the bonus features that the Shout release has, when it's available as a standalone.

I love this movie, though it really has nothing to do with the Halloween series of movies...

It's a joke. It will feature the same transfer as Shout/Scream's release and it's completely barebones. Not even a trailer.

Yeah the only thing it'll have an advantage in is price, as it'll sure to be found for under $10 in a few months.

Most people complain about Shouts encoding, compression etc so I wouldn't be surprised if the video looks slightly better on Universal's disc haha

Yes! I hate how smooth and video-like the Shout! disc looks. IMO the Vudu HDX looks more film-like as it is, than that disc does. I was always disappointed there wasn't a Universal disc of this title to go alongside their superior Halloween II disc.

At least it'll have ENG subtitles.

Scream's release doesn't include Eng subs? That's weird.

I was thinking the same thing. If it is an improvement and drops down under $8 by Halloween, I might pick it up.

Since Universal has a new team in place that wants to do right by their customers (us), then maybe their transfer/encode will surpass that of Shout's. If it does, I'll definitely be picking it up!!!!!

Cool, I haven't picked this movie up yet so I may just go for this. Maybe it won't have extras, but as others have mentioned it's likely going to look better than Shout's release, even if only subtly.

Well if the new team is reading this how about releasing RESURRECTION TO BD?
... and how about the HAMMER films?
How about fixing the sound on FLASH GORDON - putting back the original 4.0 mix.
Along with that XANDAU on BD, and fix the audio on that instead of using the horrible 5.1 mix.
Maybe ROLLERCOASTER on BD, huh.
Maybe "Ssssssss", and, THE BOY WHO CRIED WEREWOLF.
Then there's the SCI-FI sets released on DVD - those would be nice on BD.
Not to mention the Classic Monster sequels.
Mmmmm

Do we know it will be barebones, or is that (an admittedly safe) assimption?

I will be picking this for English subs alone. Making this the thrid time I'll buy halloween 3 on blu. If there is even a slight improvement on the PQ from the shout disc then that will be a added bonus.

Not only the Shout Factory individual release, but Halloween III is also included in the boxsets, that many have already purchased.
