Apparently, Tenet should be released with Dolby Vision and Atmos. Interesting turn out of events which I didn't see coming. Well, no Dolby Cinema in the Czech Republic, so I would have to make a trip to Austria for Dolby vision and I don't care at all for Atmos.

I still hope it will replicate previous Nolan movies and we will get 70mm release but most likely it's not looking very promising. I really don't want to be stacked with digital (non-laser Imax) but it is what is.

Regarding the 4k, I hope it will have lossless 5.1 mix as well which wasn't the case with the latest Warner’s disks.

I considered that listing as a rumor and unofficial because Tenet is not even released yet. It premieres August 12th and it may be postponed again, so how can any website determine when the 4K UHD and blu-ray is going to be released? It's too premature! Nobody knows what's going to happen the very next day lest six months from now.

Quote:
Tenet was supposed to be the movie that kicked off the film industry’s return to theaters, but Warner Bros. has delayed the movie indefinitely.

Though necessary given the mass uncertainty over when cinemas across the globe can safely reopen, the decision further complicates Hollywood’s already bumpy plan to revive moviegoing. “Tenet” was originally scheduled to debut on July 17, but it was pushed back to July 31 and then Aug. 12. It’s unclear when it will now welcome audiences, but the studio expects to announce a new release date “imminently.”

Latest news I could find about it:
Quote:
According to Variety, it will now be released internationally on 26 August, before debuting in select US cinemas on 3 September.

International markets that are part of the August release include the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea, and Russia.

As an AT&T stockholder, no one is asking them to rush this out. I wish they'd hold it until next summer. As much as I respect Nolan and I respect how he does business, he's not going to hurt if he doesn't get his opening weekend dollars this year. If he is, I'd advise better financial advisors.

Nolan doesn't care about his end. He's already got his $20M. It's against 20% of the gross, but I'd be surprised if the latter ends up being a larger figure than his upfront fee.

Why would you wish for a non-Atmos track? You can just play the Atmos track through a 5.1 system and it will play as TrueHD.

Then Atmos and legacy format folks all win.

There will be a 7.1 for all of us who don't care for Atmos and I'd presume that Atmos capable AVPs can simply ignore the object-based and play the 7.1.

Nolan's 5.1 have been challenging for the vast majority of surround set-ups and most will never come to terms with that. If he's going for Atmos now, then hopefully the result is more easily reproduced by the typical consumer set-up.

As I'm not looking to attend a theater anytime soon, The UHD will be the premiere for me in the dadcave..

Would anyone here with knowledge of the technical specs of this movie care to chime in on the likely hood of this disc having multiple aspect ratios?

I absolutely hate this as it messes with the manual masking that i employ for each movie.

Nolan shot with as much IMAX as possible but still had to use 'normal' 65mm for some shots so yes, there will be a variable aspect ratio between 1.78 and 2.20 on the disc.

Yuck. It just doesn't work on home video. Pick a ratio and go with it. They safety frame the IMAX stuff within the wider canvas (usually center extraction nowadays), so it's almost like wasted space anyway.

This would be an Atmos first for Chris Nolan. Maybe he finally got the wax out of his ears. Perhaps now we can understand the dialog as well.

Partially, yes. The other part is that none of us mere mortals have IMAX projection systems in our home. You lose the effect of the different ratios, so at home it's just distracting... and with Nolan often random.

Not distracting at all on a normal display. Loved the shifting ratio on Dr Strange 3D and it looks so off on 4K. Even the more extreme cases like the Last Knight looks awesome.
