I bought the LG 4K UBK80 player last year. I only use it for discs, no streaming.
In this one year I had one issue. 2 times during playback the player complete froze. The only way to get past it was to cut the power since it would not respond to anything else. First time was day one actually, first disc in the fist 5 minutes during a regular bluray disc. Second time, 1 year after the first, during a 4K disc. Both times after I started the movie again it played 100% like nothing happened. I use the player often with no other problems. I'm starting to believe that maybe something is interfering and perhaps caused those 2 incidents but I can't be sure. Is there anything that can affect the player and cause something like that? other devices maybe? some led lights I use around the room? Too many Multi-sockets? Any idead? |

2 incidents in 1 year? You are lucky you didn't buy a Sony then. I wouldn't panic if that's the only problems you've had. The ubk80 is basic but fairly reliable. Unfortunately you can't turn HDMI CEC off on these - you must use a blocker or tape the relevant pin on the hdmi connector.

Thanks for the answers.
I see no option for CEC. I don't know if it's relevant, but the second incident with the 4K disc occurred after I changed the HDMI cable. I found a new supposedly better one and I made the change (although I can't say yet if it's actually better). |

Ok back again with a similar problem.
The first one i described I think was the remote control. I used an older remote from an older LG bluray player that i liked better. I changed back to the original remote from the 4K and since then everything's ok. But now i have a new one. I found out that in some movies the player seems to have a problem with the playback after a while. The movies that seem to have the problem are over 3 hours (Gladiator-extended-Avatar the Way of Water, Godfather 2). IN every movie just after the 2 hour mark, the player starts to struggle, not so much freezing, it's more like small skips, plays a little slow (like slo motion) and some pixelation. Every time the temparture was high. Also every time after 5-10 minutes break when I start the movie again from the same spot everything is just fine and the movie plays until the end with no more issues. Only happens in 4K movies and (so far at least) big movies. So i'm thinking overheat maybe? I had a similar problem with my older LG bluray player. In this case the player could not play more than 4 hours straight. That wasn't such a big issue since I only have one 4 hours movie and thats in two seperate discs, so a small break in between was all i needed in that case. How can i cool it? The player has a lot of space from every side, up and down. So its gets a lot of air. The room though is a little stuffy i admit. Can a cooler base similar to those for laptops can help? I never used one myself before. Any ideas? |

hey, sorry for hijacking the thread but i urgently do need a solution for this problem. however, im new here and am now allowed to create threads yet ??
Collecting blu rays has become my new hobby and i just got my first ones. However, i do not have any way to play them. Since this is the first time im doing this, id like to do it properly. i currently have a samsung frame 2021 and the way i see it i have two options first, i can buy a blu ray player for the TV but in my country theyre hella expensive (around $500 for the sony UB700). While i like the feature set, there is no way im spending that amount of money. second, I have a PC at home. I can buy a usb blu ray player and rip the discs and run them over plex. The problem with this is that i will miss out on dolby vision which is something i do want to keep. The usb players do not have any markings(such as 4k, hdr ) on them and i do not know if ill be able to read the discs properly. i need an alternate solution to this problem. Any help is appreciated, Thanks |

If you don't have the money to invest in a proper player then you don't really have the money for physical media. Pretty much the top of the line 4K player (outside enthusiast, specialist players) is the Panasonic UB-820, which retails at about £300 (12 new 4Ks/30 budget 4Ks). Relative to the cost of the media, to get a player that's reliable and has all the features you'd need, it's a bargain.

The Sony 700 is a popular choice & plays DV. Be aware that 4k players can be temperamental, unlike standard bluray players. The X700M is a source of frustration for many. There is an entire thread dedicated to it where you can read for yourself to be better informed.
