Default Issues w/ps3 - Samsung Zoom Option dissapeared

ive been using a 60 gb ps3 samsung '06 model plasma version sgo4 or something with a hdmi cable and have had a zoom option on my tv from 16:9, zoom 1, zoom 2, 4:3 but all of a sudden one day its gone WTF?! the zoom 1 and 2 feature on my tv is not there kinda grey instead of blue like its not an option anymore. its been wonderful for 5 months now its not working. i called samsumg(which r horrible customer service) and he tells me that their tvs dont have a zoom option with hdmi only rca and such he said i was 'mistaken' like i imagined it all. im thinking wtf YES IT DID FOR 5 MONTHS!
can somebody please tell me whats goin on. btw i apologize if yall get this all the time. i tried searchin the forums and didnt really find anything
THANKS ALOT

I think maybe you used the zoom with TV channels, VCR, DVD player, but on HDMI (movies and games) usually you can't

On my Samsung HLP-5063W (50" 720p DLP from '04 or '05) the Zoom1 and Zoom2 features are only available on the analog inputs. In 480i and 480p through HDMI, my only options are Wide and 4:3. In 720p through HDMI, my options are Wide TV, Wide PC, 4:3 and Expand. In 1080i, my options are Wide TV or 4:3.

If the bars are black, nothing is going to burn in, what you might get is uneven wear if you keep having the black bars in exactly the same place for many many many hours.

With normal use, your probably going to buy a new TV before anything noticeable occurs due to uneven wear.

As to why the zoom no longer appears, as others have said, the zoom feature is typically only available at certain resolutions and since the PS3 can output via the HDMI at different resolutions, it might just be using a resolution now that your TV can't zoom on.

Why did it work 5 months ago? Well, could be software update on the PS3 changed some behaviors or could be you're playing a different game/content which outputs at a different resolution.

it does seem like after i upgraded when playing call of duty 4 and the new splinter cell was about the time it stopped being able to zoom. although i thought it was my ps3 being the prob and turned out to b my tv. long story short, ive got a brand new 40gb ps3 and soon as i plugged it in its still displaying a 'zoomed' image of the ps3 background with no game or movie n it.when i put a game in it displays normally but when i put a movie in theres no zoom option. and SOOOOOOOOmetimes it was display the ps3 background normal size and ill have the zoom option with the tv but when i put a widescreen movie in it will have bars twice the size their supposed to be and when i zoom to get rid of them the res. is horrible.
THANKS alot for the help so far..
