Well, spin my nipple nuts and send me to Alaska! So looking forward to the new series.
Glad they're retaining practical model effects too.

First episode now available via UKTV Play, thought it was amusing with some good jokes but didn't much care for the story or setting but as a die hard RD fan I will keep on watching.

I've just had a chance to catch up with the first two eps. They both just feel right, even if some of the jokes don't quite hit. This is arguably the first time the show has felt like "proper" Red Dwarf since 1993 and that's great to me.

Loved episode 4 despite the abrupt ending, seems to be happening a lot this series almost like they are having to cut them short for some reason.

Got the North America Blu-ray. 1080i.

Didn't this air in 1080p?

Is the UK Blu-ray release 1080p?

You're probably right, I'm not up to date on how TV airs. I don't watch shows on TV anymore - Blu-ray all the way for me

I can't imagine it being shot interlaced though, I imagine it would have been shot progressive, using Arri Alexa cameras.

I don't know if it was shot 24fps or 25fps.

Red Dwarf X was 1080p (24fps) on Blu-ray.

The BBC did the same thing with their release of Outcasts. Also filmed on Arri cameras, the Blu-ray was unfortunately interlaced. (They also didn't air Outcasts - or release it on Blu-ray - in the original aspect ratio shot and intended by the Director of Photography.)

If it was shot interlaced, then I understand if the Blu-ray release is interlaced. But I don't believe that's the case here.

They have. There's a season 1 through 8 region 2 boxed set. As picture quality is only a slight step up, there are no new bonus features and only a tiny saving in shelf space I chose to stick with the old DVDs.

Plus as was traditional with BBC upscale blu-ray sets they cocked up some of the transfers. But unlike Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy and Day Of The Triffids they did offer replacement discs. So there's that to take into consideration also.
