As you might've heard:
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=8879 In August, MGM and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring the 25th Anniversary Edition of Spaceballs to Blu-ray. Director Mel Brooks (Blazing Saddles) applies his cracked comedy perspective to this cult classic, which spoofs the world of George Lucas' Star Wars franchise. From Fox's official synopsis: "When the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis, Ghostbusters) attempts to steal all the air from planet Druidia, a determined Druish Princess (Daphne Zuniga, Gross Anatomy), a clueless rogue (Bill Pullman, Independence Day), and a half-man/half-dog creature who's his own best friend (John Candy, Planes, Trains, & Automobiles) set out to stop him. But with the forces of darkness closing in on them at ludicrous speed, they'll need the help of a wise imp named Yogurt (Brooks) and the mystical power of 'The Schwartz' to bring peace and merchandising rights to the entire galaxy!" Fox's Blu-ray presents the film in its 1.85:1 original aspect ratio alongside a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track and the following supplements: All-new Farce Yourself! Spaceballs and the Skroobing of Sci-Fi featurette Commentary by Mel Brooks Additional Commentary Tracks: Mawgese Dinkese Behind-the-scenes featurettes: Spaceballs: The Documentary In Conversation: Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan John Candy: Comic Spirit Watch the Movie in Ludicrous Speed Spaceballs still galleries: Behind-the-movie photos Costume gallery Art gallery Trailers: Exhibitor trailer with Mel Brooks introduction Theatrical trailer Film flubs: Edge of the Mirror Grabs Himself Early The Magic Reappearing Ring More Than His Head No End in Sight Track Behind Dot Storyboards-to-film comparison The 25th Anniversary Edition of Spaceballs is expected to street on August 7th. The new featurette alone is enough for me to replace my old Blu-ray copy, I'll be buying! I also hope there will be a new remastered transfer (even though I think the current Blu transfer looks good already). Last edited by Scottie; 09-11-2017 at 10:36 PM. |

The review for this movie on this site is very positive. The video/audio/extras are all very good so why on earth would they release this movie again when they have so many other titles that actually need a new release? For example, where on earth was a proper 25th anniversary release of Rocky last year, a movie that actually needs a new transfer not to mention extras of which the first release had none. That's just one example, there are many other examples - both from movies that need to be re-released with better transfers/extras, as well as movies that weren't released on blu at all. Man, these studios can really be annoying with moves like this.
