Four new Quadio Blu-ray releases from Rhino in June. Amazon on Sep 8

There will be 4 new Quadio releases from Rhino coming towards the end of June, sold directly by Rhino.

There is no word on the 4 titles, but they will be 1970's vintage quadraphonic mixes in 192/96 stereo and quadraphonic, similar to their excellent Chicago and Doobie Brothres box sets.

These discs will sell for around $30 as indicated by Rhino. More details will follow

I wish they'd re-release the Chicago box set. I missed it the first time and copies are now a fortune on ebay.

The aforementioned Chicago & Doobie Brothers releases are two absolute gems.

I'm surprised the news hasn't made it here, yet, but the four titles are:

Black Sabbath: Paranoid (1970)
Alice Cooper: Billion Dollar Babies (1973)
The J. Geils Band: Nightmares...and Other Tales from the Vinyl Jungle (1974)
Jefferson Starship: Red Octopus (1975)

They will all be Blu-rays in Super Jewel cases (like SACDs used to have) and cost $24.98 each. There will be another announcement / teaser on Friday and the titles will be released next Friday. The stock is already manufactured and ready to go.

There are four more titles coming and potentially more after that.

So yes, BluRays with the same Quadio/Stereo functionality as before.
Except for one title (this might be a clue!) where the Quad program deviates quite a bit from the stereo version.
As the audio programs need to be the same length for the Red/Yellow buttons to work, we had to lay this one out with the Stereo tracks AFTER the Quad.
So when you play the disc, the Quad plays first followed directly by the Stereo. Unless you select and individual track (like with a cd).

192/24 for both Quad & Stereo on all titles.

Interesting info about Paranoid:

Allow me to clarify this point.
Don't rule out either Paranoid or Machine Head, as the true Quad discrete mix has NOT been issued. As y'all have pointed out, the version Paranoid that came out in the UK Deluxe Edition was a needle drop of the WB US Quadradisc pressing. And a noisy one at that. Had I known they were doing that...
And the US Quad of Machine Head has not been issued, so that qualifies as unissued. To me, anyway.

TL/DR: Don't rule out Paranoid & Machine Head.

That’s good news. I’ll buy another quad release of Paranoid.
I like the 2009 DVD-A quite a bit. That’s a nice set.
Looking forward to another quality release of an incredible album.

Edit: my mistake. The 2009 set includes a DVD-Video disc that includes a DTS 5.1 48kHz option at 1.5 Mbps.

So an upgrade would be welcome.

The Rhino insider revealed yesterday that there will be a bundle option for all four titles when they go live on the Rhino US online store next Friday. The price will be $79.98, so a savings of $19.94 versus buying the titles individually.

Rhino apparently has a UK shop called Dig! which will carry 3 of the 4 titles, presumably excluding Paranoid.

They do not have the rights to Black Saabath and they did not take the J. Geils Band disc, according to the Rhino insider.

Ordered all four. I don't remember that particular J Geils Band album, but I do remember liking that Jefferson Starship record. The J Geils album I remember had Angel in the Centerfold on it.
