Thumbs up

I'm in, though I doubt there's any chance they've dug up the original Korean version (it is widely considered lost).

I'm really excited to see this. I grew up on a diet of monster movies but this one has always excaped me. Growing up in Canada before cable TV, the monster movies were all broadcast by a border station in Pembina, North Dakota on Saturday night. If KCND didn't show it during the Satuurday Night Chiller, I didn't see it.

I've always heard about YONGARY but I've never seen it so this will be a blind pre-order for sure.

Supposedly, half of the film was found. But, all that remains are the dupe prints of the American cut. Someone on eBay Germany has a digest German copy which is in scope.

It's better than Gorgo anyway.

I've got that combo DVD.

I'd love to see the original Korean cut of the reboot, but I don't think that's ever going to happen. I almost missed the final American release. I heard it was coming during the time of the Gamera Trilogy, but I lost track. Then one day, when I was watching a weird movie called Reptilian, I heard someone call it Yongary.

But this one is Korean, which gives it a special place in the genre.

Not even close, this is down there in X from Outer Space or Gamera Vs Zigra land.

Meaning I'll probably buy it.

Being a monster movie entrepreneur (cough cough)

Its better than the X from Outer Space, APE, Mighty Peking Man, Gamera SuperMonster and Gamera vs Zigra

Its not as good as Gamera vs Gaos ,Gamera vs. Barugon, Gamera vs Guiron, King Kong Escapes, Gorgo, Yog or Gappa.

Its a far cry from even the worst Godzilla movie(s)

But you know what, I love it all the same.. I enjoy the film as I would any other monster movies, Ive seen it a dozen times by now Im sure

The most interesting Godzilla knock-off of them all, however, might be Pulgasari, the 1985 North Korean movie made by filmmakers kidnapped by Kim Jong-il. Strange but true.
Pulgassari is a fun one, but there is ONE film that is also from Korea and super obscure that no one may ever see or get released.. google this film

Very interesting. I recently got the DVD for like $4 to round off some of my monster collection, but it looks like i'll be upgrading that thankfully. Looked pretty poor last time I watched it.

Without meaning to sound like a stuck record, can anyone verify the region coding and which cut of the movie this is? Yongary is just one of several kaiju movies i've yet to get around to watching.

Oh, and for the record, Gorgo is AWESOME! Just ask Steve Ditko...

I own the Kino disc so I popped it into my all region Sony, which is set to Region B, and got the message "This disc is playable in Region A only." This is also what is listed on the back cover.

For the older, prior post, the version is the American International TV release according to the credits and back cover, although it is in wide screen. Certainly from a print, with lots of white spec damage (at least in the opening minutes). It clocks in at 1 hour 20 minutes and 3 seconds, although 12 seconds of that is the Kino logo.

I laid down quite a bit of money for an unopened copy of this and....I'm wondering if I got scammed with a bootleg. This may seem like a weird gripe but it appeared almost TOO perfect. Everything looks legit. Case. Disc. The shrink-wrap felt slightly....off. Again...too perfect. If you buy a lot of blu-rays you know what I'm talking about. You get a feel for how this stuff should look and feel if it's legit. I haven't watched it. Is there any way to tell if it's legit or not? Any advice? If it's a legit copy then I got the most pristine, perfect copy of a movie in every way that's ever existed. I don't know what to think.

I bought it from Achilles Reel via Amazon..

Well...in case anyone reads this (to clear Achilles Reels' good name lol) it appears that that copy of Kino's Yongary that I received from them was indeed legit. It looked too good/pristine to be true and the shrink wrap had that weird kinda brittle feel that non-factory plastic wrap has much of the time. But there was nothing wrong with it as far as I could tell..
