Disney Searchlight Pictures on Physical; Where Have They Gone?

I wanted to start a new thread for folks to discuss there thoughts on Searchlight Pictures (formerly Fox Searchlight Pictures) having a mysterious absence in the physical media game as of late. It seems like since the Disney/20th Century acquisition the branch has been very selective about which titles receive not just the theatrical treatment (a good dozen have received the "Hulu Original" treatment) but the disc treatment as well.

Recent theatrical titles to garner physical releases include;
  • Downhill
  • Nomadland
  • Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) ~ DVD Only :'(
  • The Eyes of Tammy Faye
  • The French Dispatch
  • Antlers
  • Nightmare Alley
  • The Banshees of Inisherin
  • The Menu
  • Empire of Light

Recent theatrical titles to not garner physical releases so far include;
  • See How They Run
  • Chevalier
  • Theater Camp

And just for the helluva it here are the "Hulu Original" titles that haven't garnered physical releases yet;
  • Fresh
  • Fire Island
  • Good Luck to You, Leo Grande
  • Not Okay
  • Rye Lane
  • Flamin' Hot

Ask Disney. I've wondered the same thing.

The Hulu Originals make sense as streaming-only.

As for the others, based on that list it looks like box office gross, awards wins/nominations and prestige directors able to contractually demand a disc would explain which got discs and which didn't.

It's just sad we're in an era when a disc isn't a given.

Not all Disney’s fault, they are following Searchlight’s pre-Disney acquisition procedures.

Lucy in the Sky never was released physically when Searchlight was Fox Searchlight.

Only available internationally are Wendy and The Personal History of David Copperfield. These were Fox Searchlight titles rebranded Searchlight.

Really wish Theater Camp would get a release...as far as streaming titles go I also wouldn't say no to Fresh/Rye Lane/Fire Island

Rye Lane had a UK theatrical release, and still didn’t get a disc.

Leo Grande has UK and German BDs (Lionsgate/EuroVideo.)
