Germany Edgar Wallace Blu-ray Editions

Edgar Wallace Edition 1 Blu-ray
Edgar Wallace Edition 2 Blu-ray
Edgar Wallace Edition 3 Blu-ray
Edgar Wallace Edition 4 Blu-ray
Edgar Wallace Edition 5 Blu-ray
Edgar Wallace Edition 6 Blu-ray

A few years ago several DVD volumes were released of the Edgar Wallace 'krimis'. Not sure how many films there were, but in the past week I noticed on Blu-ray.com's main website page, under the New German Blu-ray Pre-order list a new listing for a German Blu-ray title called Edgar Wallace Blu-ray Edition 1.

On the Amazon.de pre-order listing page it says the three films in this first Blu-ray volume are the following:

Der Frosche mit der Maske (one of the alternative titles on the IMDb is Face of the Frog)
Der Hexer (one of the alternative titles on the IMDb is The Mysterious Magician)
Der Hund von Blackwood Castle (one of the alternative titles on the IMDb is The Monster of Blackwood Castle)

and that there is English audio and English subtitles in this set. "2K" is mentioned as well (fresh 2K scans?), and there appear to be some bonus features.

Checked the three movies today. They're remastered, alright (however not all of the OCN from DER HEXER could be located).
Do they look better than the DVDs before? Sure.
Do they look like vintage film? Not so much.
The grain is almost gone.

I'd compare these to the German release of THIS ISLAND EARTH. Some (rightfully) might find the look clean and sharp, where others might miss the detail. YMMV.

All discs are region A/B/C according to the back cover (untested by me - I'll check if desired) and completely english friendly (english dub + subs).

I watched *Frog* and *Blackwood* yesterday, these look simply stunning
Kudos !
Now I want a Volume II with College Girl Murders, Phantom of Soho, The Zombie Walks, The Mad Executioners.. and keep them English friendly.
Great set, I very much recommend this product

I have nearly all of DVD sets of the Wallace krimis that were released by Koch Media, four movies per volume. I'm not as interested in the films once they move into the 1970's, so I stopped collecting at the later releases. These are tremendous sets, but there are eleven films that are not English friendly, which is very disappointing. I would definitely be interested in upgrading those in particular just to be able to watch them. I love the genre and the films, but could never afford to buy them all over again on Blu.

This first Blu set has none of the non-English ones, sadly, but I'm in Germany at the moment and may pick it up if I see a deal for it.

Time will tell. I sure hope the others will be English friendly. Hopefully the dubs can be licensed. I have the Retromedia and Sinister Cinema DVDs..

I think the PQ on these is pretty good, I would rate them above This Island Earth. Looks like they've been smoothed a bit, but there is still reasonable detail and grain. Did notice a bit of combing, but overall happy with this set and will be getting future volumes.

There's a comment on this page confirming English dubs and subs.

On this occasion, I didn't know about this new Blu-ray title until I noticed the Blu-ray.com listing link on the main website page a few weeks ago - a second Edgar Wallace Blu-ray Edition. The release date is Friday 31st March, 2017 (subject to change). The three films in this second volume (after checking the Amazon.de listing page and searching for them on the IMDb) are The Forger of London, The Inn on the River and The Squeaker.

If only they were the Edgar Wallace Mysteries made by Merton Park. I'd love a Blu boxset of those

In case anyone is interested, the second Blu-ray volume of the Edgar Wallace collection is currently a lightning deal at Amazon.de (24,27€).

Volumes 3 and 4 will be released next month (Volume 3 on 01/12, and Volume 4 on 15/12).

Volume 3 is already in stock

Does anyone know if ALL the films in the box sets so far have English subtitles?

I am just worried about ordering as the DVD sets had ones that did not not. Thanks

Yes, all 3 movies come with English subtitles (along with the English language option).

However, in spite of the specs given on the back of the box (code ABC) the discs DO NOT seem to be region free, since on my Oppo they did not play when set to region A.
