Amazon just told me today that this was on an indefinite hold. Strangely, there's already a review posted August 1 that says the quality is crap... anyone know anything?

That movie has one hell of a catchy theme song.

I don't remember much about this one, which I watched in its first US network TV showing. What I do remember is that I thought it was insipid.

I finally got this movie in the mail today (had to cancel
my Amazon order and get it directly from Kino) and popped it in. The image is very grainy (similar to El Mariachi) but sharp and colorful. Probably the best the film is going to look unless someone denoises the image.

That Australian review was most likely for the earlier Australian DVD (visible if you check the DVD options). From a company called "Shock Records" with the cover saying "Hollywood Gold Series."

The review is definitely for the bootleg DVD. Amazon sells a bunch of these Australian bootleg DVDs of movies never released on video. I don't know why the studios don't get Amazon to pull the listings. Even the bootleg Little Darlings DVD is being openly sold on Amazon.

Go ahead and buy the Kino blu-ray. It's the first official video release of the movie and, if enough people buy it, maybe Kino will license the other Mary Tyler Moore Universal movie that has never been released on video (Don't Just Stand There).

Thanx whiteberry & bashfulstool!

I can usually figure these things out on my own... but other times... sigh. I should know better.

I ordered it from Kino a few minutes before I canceled my Amazon order of "it" and "The Last Man on Earth..." and it shipped this morning. Kino, as usual, is On Top of It!

I've never even heard of this Film. Has it ever been released in any form? Played on TMC?

I have a really good buddy who used to find me cool things on TMC. He would Tape them for me and they were usually in really nice shape. I got "Beach Ball" and "Tribes" (Great film), among others from him.

I need to get a nice A to D Converter to Digitize these for friends. Anyone have any suggestions?

It hasn't been released on video and I'm not sure if it has ever been shown on television after the introduction of the VCR. The copy of the movie floating around is supposedly from a 16mm print.

I always found it strange that Universal never released these two movies on video during Mary Tyler Moore's lifetime. They aren't top tier movies but it's not like she was some unknown actress that was never heard of again after these movies were released.

I read somewhere a long time ago (I don't know where) that it was a rights issue with a writer that kept this film from being issued on home media up until now.
Edit: I think it had something to do with the author of the original novel that was adapted, "I Am Thinking of My Darling" by Vincent McHugh from 1943. He wasn't happy that they used the idea of the virus in his book but turned it into a comedy, or something along those lines.

Got my "What's so bad..." yesterday. Ordered from Kino with 11 other titles... and it took just over a week. Nice.

Sadly, this movie appears to be somewhat edited. The sequence where everyone wakes up with the infection is not correct. There is supposed to be a song and dance by all the hippies, with each having their own vocal part. That is not there, instead some clips of them with a small portion of the song heard as background. Very disappointing, as that song was one of the best parts.

So the movie didn't live up to its title for you.

It used to be, I think it got taken down due to copyright. I did do an audio recording of the scene, so I have that at least.

A comedy about a pandemic? What could possibly go wrong?
I'm up for seeing this!

Let me say I bought WHAT'S SO BAD ABOUT FEELING GOOD? on Kino-Lorber quite a while ago, but I kept an over-the-air broadcast I had on a VHS tape which was recorded from the Comedy Central channel ages ago. (I can plainly see -- even with the very grainy recording -- the 'Comedy Central' logo on the corner of the screen on the bottom right).

I'll have to fish out that tape and see about the 'music scene' that's been mentioned by 'metzmma'. I've not watched the videocassette in quite some time (at least 10 yrs) and so I don't have a clear memory of all the sequences in the movie in regards to any differences between the over-the-air CC recording and the Kino disc.

I shall have to bring that old tape down and play it in the near future to see if the 'Happy Musical Hippies' are included.
