Default In 10-20 years cloud storage might replace consumer local storage

There is a possibility that in another 10 to 20 years that all consumer solid state drives will be read and write only for the operating system only (with maybe some software apps that are cloud based apps instead of locally stored apps). And to store personal data there will no longer exist solid state drives, hard drives, USB sticks, SD cards, etc. Instead in the future all personal data might be stored on a secure cloud server allowing the owner of the data to access the private encrypted content anywhere in the world without having to worry about a SD card, USB stick, solid state drive, or hard drive to manage. In all or some areas of the world under certain conditions the governments of the world might have a master key to unlock encrypted personal data in the interest to fight crime and for national security.

There are many that believe that encrypted cloud servers will one day replace consumer owned solid state drives, hard drives, optical discs, SD cards, and USB sticks. The cost of desktop computers, portable Notebook computers, and tablet PC’s being greatly reduced in price since no storage drive needed since everything is required to be stored in the encrypted cloud.

But those are just some theories and there is a possibility cloud storage and local consumer storage might coexist. If not, then cloud storage could replace local storage in a decade or two for both data storage first and then later on cloud-based software apps. Maybe even one day a cloud based operating system for everyone.
