Default New Spartacus series coming to Starz

Quote:
Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight is expanding the franchise once again with a new series currently in development at Starz. DeKnight will serve as showrunner and executive producer of the as-yet-untitled project.

The next chapter will explore uncharted territory and new journeys of the original series’ iconic characters. In the aftermath of the defeat of Spartacus and his rebel army in the series finale, the new drama will depict a new tale of treachery, deceit, and blood unfolding beneath the foreboding shadow of Rome.

“It’s such an incredible honor to be invited to return to the world of Spartacus and to be met with unbridled creative support from my colleagues at Starz and Lionsgate,” said DeKnight in a statement. “Together we are crafting something truly unique and unusual for the next chapter in this epic story.”

“It has been over a decade since Spartacus delighted international audiences and we are thrilled to reimagine and expand this gripping, action-packed drama for our viewers today,” said Kathryn Busby, President, Original Programming, Starz. “Spartacus has deeply invested fans who are eager for its return, and we look forward to working with Steven on this exciting next chapter.”

YES! I loved this series when it aired and it still holds up whenever I revisit it! This is great news!

The original show was the epitome of early 2010s cheesiness. I'd be interested to see how they do that in 2023.

Amazing right? Network used to have great series sadly their current stuff is nothing like what Spartacus was. They forgot what the network was all about such as the early premiere of new movies.

Damn good news....if they can do it right.
Slave revolts didn't just stop with Spartacus....and Agron survived.

Looks like that was something the writer of the article mistakenly added and not a quote from the producers. I'd be cool with a spinoff with a new story and all new original characters. As long as they stick to the style, themes and content of the original.

No one gave a crap about that character except gay men. Making a show about him would make no sense.

Steven DeKnight tweeted a few updates this week:

"In the works! Just finished writing the insane pilot!"

"Not redoing Spartacus. Another story set in the same universe."

https://twitter.com/stevendeknight/s...39603643494401

"Don't have the green light quite yet, but we're very, very close!"

https://twitter.com/stevendeknight/s...38714862075904

Responding to the question: Will it have the same style: shocking sex, violence, and effects as the original?

"All of it! And a lot of new stuff as well!"

That's encouraging. Hopefully, Starz won't get cold feet should DeKnight swing for the fences, saddling him with a lot of notes, rewrites, cuts...

Honestly, I'm kind of disappointed with this. An Ashur spinoff? You retcon his death in season 2 and have it so he never died? It's not like his death was ambiguous on the show either.

Why not do a Julius Caesar series? Caesar was one of the main characters in the final season. It's not like he didn't have a remarkable life that would make for a great show. Plus, Todd Lasance who played Caesar on the show is still a working actor. He was in Without Remorse, the Michael B. Jordan movie, a couple years ago.

Not really retconning it, it still happened... this is just an alternate version where he hadn't. Into the Spartaverse.
