Default Misunderstood films (at the time of their release)

There are films that are "misunderstood" (or if there is a better term to describe them) at the time of their releases for various reasons including being ahead of time. Later on, received respect and/or popularity. Which are some of your favorites from this category?

Films that immediately come to mind include Citizen Kane & Vertigo, now at #2 and #1 respectively on the current Sight & Sound Greatest Films list. Another popular film is On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

From the top of mind recall, below are a few films that have got a lot better for me from the time of their respective release (many helped by Director's Cut):

License to Kill (1989): Didn't feel like a Bond film on its release relatively speaking. Now seen as a solid Bond film that utilizes book material -> The torture of Leiter is from the book "Live and Let Die". Bond working for Sanchez is from the book "The Man with the Golden Gun". Milton Krest is from the short story "The Hildebrand Rarity" - Link. It does have a few relatively weak segments but overall an excellent film. IIRC, it is John Glen's favorite among his directed Bond films.

Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut (2005)

Miami Vice (2006) Unrated/Director' Cut: Talking about License to Kill, let's not forget Miami Vice which looks amazing now with unique cinematography. Now I see many films using such techniques.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E (2015): Love the 60s environment created in this film. Still waiting for part 2.

Batman v Superman Ultimate Edition (2016)
