I have been buying 4k UHD titles for atmos but currently I am running a BenQ HT2050 1080p projector and using my Xbox One S as a player. On some titles the colors are way off. I will be getting a faux 4k project soon (leaning towards the Epson 5040ub) but was curious of the 4k UHD players that are out there right now which one does HDR to SDR conversion the best?

UB900 right now. If you can wait two months, UB820 will be out.

Do we know of the UB820 will be as adapt at this? I’m new to all this and I need a player good at down converting so I can see the remastered transfers for Die Hard, Jurassic Park, Mission Impossible, etc. basically all the 4K releases that don’t include a new bluray.

I'm having zero problems and excellent results with my Oppo and my 1080p projector.

I'm getting excellent results with my Oppo 203/Sony 45es combo. I watched Deadpool using the 4k disc over the weekend and it was a tad sharper than the 1080p. Well worth it for the awesome Atmos track too.

Thanks for the Oppo feedback. I watched The Greatest Showman on my Xbox One S and for the most part the movie looked good but I would say in about 20% of the scenes the skin tones were this crazy orange color. I need to go back to the same scenes on Blu-Ray and see the differences.

I own a 43" Sony W800C 1080p LED TV (only 2.5 years old). It was a top o' the line 1080p at the time, and the problem was that in Australia, there were no 4K TVs that small yet (I needed a 43"), and HDR was only available on the most expensive models (and UHD BD was still on the horizon).
I'm glad I waited. My current Sony 800C Sony 1080p TV: https://www.sony.com.au/electronics/...d-/kdl-43w800c I want to get a few more years out of this TV before I go 4K (and I am hoping that OLED will go as small as 43"). I need a 43" since my TV unit will not fit a TV any bigger AND as I sit approx. 2m away from the screen, I am very happy with the viewing size (I always sit towards the back of movie theatres anyhow). I have been future proofing and I have 40 UHD movies and I would like to play HEVC transfers on my 1080p Sony TV, since a UHD player should downscale to 1080p/24 when it recognises that it is not attached to a 4K TV since some HEVC transfers are better than their MPEG-2/AVC/VC-1 counterparts... (Eg. Blade Runner ![]() Q. If I buy a Sony UHD player for 1080p viewing, do I need to get one that has a HDR-SDR converter for a 1080p TV? Will the HDR output be an issue? 1. It looks like the UBP-X800 has a converter, but the UBP-X700 doesn't (not stated in specs). 2. It also bothers me that BD-RE is not on the list of discs that the 800 can play, but it is on the 700 (I have a number of BD-RE discs I have made using my Blu-Ray Disc Recorder). 3. I would like to buy the 700, since it will have a Dolby Vision upgrade and it is 3kg lighter! (I was planning on placing my Panasonic BD Recorder and UHD player on top of one another due to space constraints). Note: I plan to output the Audio via HDMI to a Yamaha HT and the Video via HDMI direct to the TV... Will that also cause any complications. If anyone out there could confirm if I will run into any issues with the HDR/SDR concerns AND splitting the audio/video, I would appreciate it. * I assume getting the 800 would be the go. My setup handles the conversion fine, only UHD that kinda looked wrong was Van Helsing. What I notice over bluray is small uptick in detail, colors are sliiiiightly more vibrant at times, and the image does not look as 'flat' if that makes sense. The Mummy is a good example could tell when the HDR was kicking in, still noticeable in SDR

Since Doly Vision won't be needed I recommend this player. Every UHD I play to my Sony 1080P TV looks great on it. The Sony X700 I found made Disney films really dark, not a problem with the Panasonic.
