On second thought, maybe we don't need every movie to get a 4K release.

On a serious note, no way this isn't just the BD master sharpened and upscaled to 4K with the most obvious fake HDR on top.

Think of it this way, if this can get a 4K release no studio anywhere has an excuse anymore

The weird thing is this is listed as having an AR of 2.39:1 which was the original theatrical AR but no release of the movie ever had that. They were all 1.78:1, so this might actually be a genuine 4K scan. It was shot and finished on 35mm, imagine if this of all movies ends up having a decent transfer?

I’m also not 100% sure but honestly, this could be a real new master. This label actually is a sub-label of Concorde, a long-time home video label in Germany. Last year, they released a new UHD of one of my favorite childhood films in 4K and I was suspicious then. Turns out it was a new restoration from the negative and supported by a new German film restoration fund.

That’s where it ends though - I don’t think Boll gets any grants from them. We’ll have to wait for reviews but the thought of having that guy’s works hit 4K before someone like Tarkovsky is disgusting.

Who says "Oh, we need to re-scan Bloodrayne for 4K" and doesn't get laughed at?

I don't even see a market for this. I watched it recently for the first time and it was so goddamn awful.

Not likely considering that this version is listed as 94 minutes, whereas the unrated version is 99 minutes. It's possible that the Amazon info could be inaccurate, but given the German attitude I've seen towards 18+ rated movies and the track record for Boll's work, I have no confidence that they'd drop the unrated cut on us all willy-nilly.

Honestly, the absolute sheer insanity that we're getting Uwe Boll on 4k is something to admire!

Uwe Boll gets represented on 4K UHD before Andrei Tarkovsky (and many other great directors), what a ridiculous world we live in.

There's definitely a market because it's an official movie adaptation of a popular video game franchise. Granted, the series has been dormant for a while, but the name on the cover alone should sell a few copies.
Add to that a pretty respectable cast (seriously, how did Boll pull that off) to further solidify its "genuineness" (notice how the director's name is nowhere to be seen) and I think quite a few people will be suckered in to blind buying it.

Remember, this movie came out 18 years ago, which is plenty of time for it to be forgotten or never heard of.

Looking at that list again and seeing Ben Kingsley, all I can think of is that episode of The Sopranos where Christuhfuh and one of his goon buddies try to intimidate Ben into joining the cast of Cleaver. Didn't Jeremy Irons say he needed the Dungeons & Dragons money to renovate a castle he had just bought? I assume something similar was at play when Ben signed onto this film.

I'm actually waiting for that one fan to chime in going "DAY ONE!" or "Never understood the haterz, was a good time at the movies!" or something like that. There's got to be one. Somewhere.

So many people here outraged that one movie is getting released before their favorite...

I actually like this movie. It is silly as f**k, but because of that it is also hilariously entertaining.

Not sure there’s any “outrage”, just a bit of mild incredulity.

Plus, I guess there must be some poor soul out there whose absolute favourite film is Bloodrayne, so good for them
