United Kingdom Count Dracula 4K UHD (88 Films)

Count Dracula 4K Blu-ray

Quote:
Bored on the motorway announcement time! #1

After 18 months in the restoration pipeline, we are now very, very close to finishing our 4K UHD Dolby Vision master of the great Jess Franco’s Count Dracula from the original, original negatives that were located Indiana Jones style in a temple of doom somewhere near Bucharest….. probably….. Once we’d cleaned all the blood off, the quality was startling! In fact so good, we decided it doesn’t need many extras so welcome to our amazing, budget friendly 1 disc edition, coming to very soon to DVD!

I'll wait for some comparisons before placing an order, 88 would be the easier choice for me but some of their releases have been dodgy quality wise

After addressing the two flawed 4Ks they released, they've earned my trust.

Plus this will be significantly cheaper! I think their comment about extras is tongue-in-cheek as well, they are poking fun at Severin doing whatever they can to bump it to eye-watering prices. I'm sure this will have extras, it'll just all be contained on the same disc as the feature.

Nice, but I wish there were a widescreen option.

Unless all older versions were zoomed, the framing is wildly inconsistent. A traditionally matted version would look awful on some shots.

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film5/blu-r...la_blu-ray.htm

If it was matted originally, I bet it looked even more inept than it should, like the reverse of Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space, which looks far sloppier than even that should when it was seen at open matte 4:3 all these years. You'd have to reframe on a shot by shot basis, and that wouldn't in any way mimic an original projection. I guess no one releasing it sees the point of creating a new version when it works as 1.37:1.

Nice artwork. I’ll probably pick up both versions.

From viewing these caps, I agree this was framed for 1.37:1 (or at very widest, 1.66:1). To get 1.78:1 widescreen, there would have to be some real creative reframing that differs from shot to shot (similar to how EVIL DEAD 1 was reframed), and even then, it would still look odd IMO. If you just stuck a matte on it as-is, it would look ridiculous.

Also this is up for preorder on amazon.co.uk

Some shots do look like they'd matte fine. This may be more accident than intent.

What baffles me about commercial films of this era intended for cinema, no matter how cheap, is that surely the cinematographers knew they'd be matted as tight as 1.85:1 in some territories?

Just got an email through from Amazon saying this release is postponed until December 31st 2024. The release date is also updated on the Amazon website. Anybody else experienced this? I can't think why they would delay this release

It's just a placeholder date. That won't be the release date and will no doubt be re-announced in the Q3 slate

Now I have to figure out what other titles I stupidly bulked in with this turkey when I pre-ordered it from Orbitdvd, that I also won't be seeing anytime soon

Amazon UK now says this is finally releasing, in just two weeks (May 20 street date). I wonder if that's legit.

Been up on 88's site for a good few weeks now for pre-order

https://88-films.myshopify.com/produ...la-uhd-blu-ray

The date is indeed legit and it's actually shipping now from 88 direct
