Reports are coming out based off an internal Sony document which is starting PS5 Pro will release in 2024 and PS6 is scheduled for release sometime in 2028. This would be an 8 year gap between PS5 and PS6.
This internal document release is due to UK law as part of the MS Activision deal. Full 22 Page Doument: https://assets.publishing.service.go...ertainment.pdf Quote:

I suspect well see what the systems can do with Spiderman 2 and FFXVI. But don't shoot the messenger here lol, its speculation at this point based off an internal document declassified for a UK lawsuit. But it does line up with the Ps5 Pro rumors and diskless PS5 expected to Debut this year for release in 2024/2025

To the extent I'm using PS5 .... I'll check back in when PS12 Slim is available.
My PS4 worked a lot better than my PS5 does. I think it's downhill from here. On second thought I don't want the PS12 after all. Last edited by bhampton; 03-16-2023 at 09:57 AM. |

I used to be a big Sony fan, but my PS5 has gotten so little use it's sad. God of War Ragnarok, Miles Morales and Horizon, that's about it. And Sony's trend to put their big games on PC makes me think I probably will not get a PS6.
Both Microsoft and Sony as doing this odd game of trying to accomodate last gen, this gen, while also putting their stuff on other platforms, making the main draw of consoles kind of obsolete (for someone like me). I'm probably going to go PC/Nintendo Switch 2 if this Sony thing holds true. If I didn't get my PS5 for literally -25 bucks (massive screw up by retailer), I'd be pretty bummed. |

I know people say we don't need a Pro model, but i am still on the side that thinks 8K isn't going to be mainstream for PS6. In fact, PS5 is actually advertised as 8K capable and there's like 1 game or something that does it. The future for gaming lies more towards 4K/60fps as a target with better real time graphics and then continuing with better graphics but trying to upgrade to 120hz.
I know that Samsung has also started doing 144hz capable TVs, so wouldn't be surprised if eventually even that higher refresh rate became a thing but i would say a better frame rate will add more to the experience than going to 8K. |

Looking forward to the pro! Framerate isn't locked in several games.

And it won’t be on a Pro. PS4 Pro didn’t lock framerates. PS5 was a large upgrade and still doesn’t have locked framerates. That’s a developer issue, not a hardware issue. Until developers decide to lock framerate first and turn down some of the gimmicky visual sliders to get that you can have a PS 10 Pro and it won’t matter. How each game being released these days doesn’t have at a minimum 30 and 60 locked and the visual tweaks needed to get there automatically is ridiculous. Have both of those standard for every game and then add a fidelity mode with a fluctuating frame rate for those that want it.

I'm talking about games with unlocked framerates that don't always hit 60. They probably will on a PS5 pro. yeah if the devs patch them to use even higher resolutions they might not, but certainly that's not happening on something like the PS4 version of Cyberpunk which has choppy framerates on PS5 at times.

I just wanted to point out because of the few posts earlier about how framerates aren't locked to say that since PS4 Pro and continued on PS5, developers have become better at offering different performance modes for graphics or framerates and usually one in the middle designed to push graphics first but leave the framerate unlocked to try and hit much higher once more powerful hardware comes out with BC etc.
I'm personally thinking 4K/120hz will be a solid standard for a long time to come and if possible, i would even love to see 144hz supported on compatible displays. Although i can see an argument to push 8K for specific types of games. I'm hoping though prices come down again and a Slim model comes out because there's still solid weight saving to be done. Also, i'm curious on the design. |

You realize it will be very hard to slim down a Ps5. Airflow is a very big problem if not done right. In its current design its not like the Series X which I honestly think has the best design for airflow. The PS5 uses the side cooling options the Nvidia founders cards used to use. Those cards ran loud and hot.
