Default Doom: The Dark Ages

https://www.ign.com/articles/next-do...howcase-report

Quote:
Bethesda and id Software’s next Doom game is reportedly called Doom: The Dark Ages and is expected to be revealed at next month’s Xbox Games Showcase, according to Insider Gaming.

A report from the site says fans will see the next entry in the classic first-person shooter franchise when Microsoft holds its gaming event come June 9. It adds that the title has been in development for at least four years and judging by early details from last year, it may feature a medieval theme.

id’s next mainline Doom game has been rumored for years, though it has been called a different name in the past. Leaked Microsoft court documents from 2023 revealed something known as Doom: Year Zero. If Doom: The Dark Ages is real, it's likely the final name for that same project. While Bethesda has never officially confirmed that such a project exists, a recent “IDKFA” trademark filing from ZeniMax Media had many fans hoping an announcement could be on the horizon.

Looks like a new Doom may be revealed at June 9th Xbox Showcase. Too early to tell yet if it'll be multi-platform, or any other details for that matter.

Shit. I still need to beat the DLC for Eternal.

Not sure how I felt about that DLC. From what I played kind of didn't do much for me. Felt like it was expanding the product without actually being worthwhile. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood. I'll have to get in on it. I don't remember if I beat part 1 actually.

I LOVED Doom 2016, liked Doom Eternal alot, but didn't like how much it shifted into platforming (I actually didn't even know there was a DLC for it, so I may need to check that out).

About 2 weeks ago on PS Store, I finally bought Bethesda's DOOM remake for PS4 for $3.99. At that price, it's tough to pass up even though I'm not a FPS gamer, but am a fan of horror and horror games. Lots of monsters and gory action.

Doom is under Bethesda, so this could easily stay exclusive to MS who owns Bethesda.

After Doom 3 I've not played any new Doom anymore.
And I put a lot of time and effort in Doom 2 (playing and building levels)

Doom (2016) was a bit of a revelation. It just worked so well in a way we didn't see like that anymore.

Same. Fast twitch FPS games do not appeal to me in the slightest.

If you've not tried it, 2016 isn't like Serious Sam. That's more Eternals territory. While I wouldn't call 2016 methodical it's certainly not twitchy.

Yeah, "twitchy" is a really weird way to describe Doom 2016. There have been few games in the last decade where I spent more time scouring levels for items and secrets. The gamemplay and level design in that game were outstanding. I really like Eternal too, but there were some unfortunate design choices in that game.

I hope the new game is a bit of a mix between Doom 3 and Doom 2016. I like the fast paced combat but I'd also enjoy some more slow-burn moments, too. Also, I like Doom better when it is dark, so please no more of the overly lit and colorful levels of Eternal.

Hoping it's a timed exclusive, I can play on Xbox but I'd rather on PS5.

Don't get your hopes up too much yet, but the leaks/rumors indicated a multi-platform release.

Doom: The Dark Ages Comes to Xbox in 2025
Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, or play it day one with Game Pass

Quote:
Revealed worldwide today, Doom: The Dark Ages heralds the return of the unstoppable Doom Slayer in this upcoming single-player, dark fantasy action FPS from the legendary id Software.

The prequel to Doom (2016), Doom: The Dark Ages puts players behind the visor of the mighty Slayer as they battle demonic hordes in grounded, hard-hitting combat inside an epic, cinematic tale of gods, kings and monsters. Supplementing his superhuman skills and over-the-top arsenal, the Slayer will also call upon his colossal Atlan mech to brawl with titanic beasts and retake the skies aboard his ferocious steed: a jet-fueled, cybernetic war dragon.

Don your Shotgun, Shield Saw and Flail and charge headfirst into battle in 2025 when Doom: The Dark Ages arrives on Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Add Doom: The Dark Ages to your wishlist via the Microsoft Store.

I am so in. Combat doesn't look as exhausting as Eternal (still love that game, but it feels like a workout haha). I hope you get to carry a bit more ammo too.

It still looks almost too much like a modern Doom though to be called a "Dark Ages" so do they mean Dark Ages because of the lore or because it's supposed to be a technological regression as well as lore?

The dragon and big robot looked cool.

Wait, is Doomguy piloting some sort of mecha at the 1:35 mark? This looks so fun!
