Default Coke vs. Pepsi - which is better?

It's time to answer the age old question. Which is really the better cola, Pepsi or Coke? Pepsi has grown on me but I have to stick with Coke as the clear winner?
Only good thing about Pepsi is Mountain Dew and Sierra Mist.

I like Coke better if it's in a glass bottle. Otherwise I prefer Pepsi. Coke in cans and plastic bottles seems like it's more of a syrupy consistency.

Both are equally inferior to Dr. Pepper.

Actually, I drink both when I am in the mood for cola instead of the greatest drink ever invented. I go for Pepsi when I am in the mood for something sweeter and Coke when in the mood for something more tart.

But to tell the truth, none of them can hold a candle to some of the small label colas you can find at various gourmet soda shops. I am particularly fond of brewed or draft colas and of course there is always Jolt, the original energy drink.

Try :
http://www.popsoda.com/

http://www.sodaking.com/

http://www.sodapopstop.com/home.cfm

http://www.beveragesdirect.com/

to find the best soft drinks to enjoy while watching a Blu-Ray movie. These shops can even get you Coke, Pepsi, and Dr. Pepper made with cane sugar instead of corn syrup. Makes a big difference.

OK, so I take my soda a little too seriously.

Or MUG rootbeer.

Although A&W is better for rootbeer floats.

But if all I can choose between is Coke or Pepsi, it's Coca-Cola for me.

To piggyback on blindcat's post, I got some 7 Eleven brand Cola one time that was better than both. Of all the cola drinks I've had, Coke and Pepsi actually taste the least like cola

A&W Root Beer is awesome if you get it from one of the A&W shops that has it on draft. Smooth and creamy.

Awesome list of sites, blindcat . . . I love trying new sodas. It's been awhile since Pepsi or Coke came out with something different . . . Pepsi Blue is the last thing I remember.

The drawback to becoming addicted to these sodas is that shipping glass bottles, which is the best container for good soda, is really expensive. Despite that, I only order soda in cans if it is the only container the soda is available in.

I discovered that the cane sugar version of big brand sodas was better when in college. There was this pub that, in addition to having a wide range of adult beverages, had the best tasting Coke in town. Those of us that told people about it would usually scoff at us until they tried it. Turned out that the owner sourced his Coca-cola syrup from a plant in Louisiana where they still used cane sugar instead of the usual high fructose corn syrup. Since then, I jump at any chance to get versions of sodas made this way.

BTW, there is one area in which I find Pepsi to be superior. From time to time, I like to have a soda with peanuts in it. Seriously, it makes a great little snack/drink. It works for Coke and Dr Pepper, but the sweetness of Pepsi makes it the best for this. It is an acquired taste, but can be an addictive one if you acquire it.
