87North and XYZ Films have begun production on thriller The Trip from director Jorma Taccone (MacGruber).
The film stars Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle, and Keith Jardine.
Pic follows a dysfunctional couple (Segel and Weaving) who head to a remote cabin to “reconnect”, but each has secret intentions to kill the other.
XYZ is financing and producing alongside 87North’s Kelly McCormick (The Fall Guy), Lee Kim (Dual), and Guy Danella (Violent Night). Taccone and Tommy Wirkola are executive-producing with Karen Gillan co-producing.
The script was adapted by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney from Wirkola’s Norwegian thriller, I Onde Dager, which starred Noomi Rapace and Aksel Hennie, and was written by Wirkola, John Niven, and Nick Ball. I Onde Dager was produced by Jørgen Storm Rosenberg and Kjetil Omberg for 74 Entertainment and financed by XYZ in conjunction with IPR.VC. Rosenberg and Omberg are also serving as executive producers on The Trip.
Filming for The Trip is taking place in Tampere, Finland, with the film receiving production incentives from Business Finland, The City of Tampere and Film Tampere. Films Films Films is providing production services.
“I can’t wait to see Jorma bring his totally singular sensibility to the material,” said Wirkola. “That, combined with this killer cast, makes me beyond excited that this film will truly stand out in the cinematic landscape.”
