I was trying to decide what Halloween movie to watch tonight...Carrrie...The Exorcist...Burnt Offerings...Nope, I watched the 4K version of The Last Picture Show. I first saw this film 45+ years ago on the ABC Sunday Night Movie. I've seen this film easily 25 times, but tonight I was stunned by the 4K immediacy of the film in the Columbia Classics box. WOW! Why Timothy Bottoms didn't. receive an Oscar nom, I'll never know (Ryan O' Neal? Really?). A flawless film, even more flawless in 4K.

It’s a crime that The Last Picture Show never gets a stand-alone release (at least not here in the States). The only blu-ray release was part of a Criterion boxed set.

Finally had the chance to watch this after forgetting I had it, been way too focused on other things. I'd actually never seen this one before; been deep in my mental to-watch list for years. Found it riveting start to finish! So many wonderful moments and moods. Stunningly photographed. Cool, silly, bitter-sweet, tragic, and a tad chilling. Cybill and Ellen really steal the show as always. Excellent!

Really glad you liked it. I love hearing from someone who saw it for the first time and liked it. It was one of my favorites as a kid, and I tried to turn friends onto it, but was mostly met with a thud. Still have that VHS tape though. Ha!

No, like I said I got it on eBay. People get these boxsets and then parse out the movies they don't want. I got my copy for $20.

I think the DC is best. It’s only a few minutes longer and the extensions are great. The added stuff was supposed to be in the film when it came out, but the studio wanted the runtime to be under 2 hours.
