Default Best HD reicever

I have the Denon 2807 reicever and think its a great reciever, but now I have blu ray movies and want to get the best sound possbile with the new hd formats. I was looking at the Denon AVR-3808CI. Is there a better hd reicever than this one out there? Im willing to spend $1600, no more than that.

Considering the Denon 2807 accepts multi channel PCM, there wouldn't be a big difference by going with a newer receiver. So if your Blu-ray player can convert TrueHD into PCM then it may not be worth the upgrade.

Honestly, you cant go wrong with any of them, Integra has a model in that range also, which is actually and onkyo model with parts comparable to Denon and Pioneer Elite. I would stick with one of those and stay away from the yamaha, they have gone downhill in the last few years compared to other companies.

You should check out the Marantz SR-7002 also, it's right around that price.

I battled back and forth between the Onkyo 805 and the Yamaha RX-V1800. I ended up getting the 805 (roughly the same price at the time) and I'm sooo glad I did. It is nothing short of fantastic and I feel like the build quality is a little better than the yamaha. You really can't go wrong with any of those, but I love my 805

I just ordered a new 3808CI yesterday to replace my 3802. I'm sold on the Denon quality as this is the 3rd Denon reciever. I've had my 3802 for almost 6 years now and I've never even turned it off. If you look around, the 3808CI can be had for much less than list. I bought mine new from an authorized dealer for $1200 shipped.

What do people think of the Sony range??

I have a STR-DA 5200ES which is perfect for my home theatre. The 5300ES is out now but a fair bit more expensive!

Default Denon - you get what you pay for

I've had the Denon 3808CI for 3 months and it works extremely well with my set up. Besides sounding great with the Klipsch speakers and the lossless audio from BDs on the PS3, the Denon's HDMI switching significantly simplified the set up and any troubleshooting I've had to do. This is my second Denon and happy with the decision.

I believe Ive seen 1lakerfan around over on the Playstation boards (correct me if im wrong ) ...which means hes probably using the PS3.

In this case, Downhere's statement is correct...upgrading to the 3808 may not benefit you any better. Your current receiver accepts Multi PCM and is all you need with the PS3.

(but if you do upgrade...like dperron mentioned, I'd pick up the Pioneer-Elite 94TXH)

So in other words, he might get a better sound upgrade by getting a good standalone BD player that decodes DTS HD MA.. oh wait...

yeah, in the meantime he should go out and buy a new receiver because he "might" get a new player too...

good thinking.

(and was only speculation that he has a PS3 in the first place.)

If you really need the best, wait until January 2008 for the Pioneer Elite SC-09TX. I will be getting this around February or March.
