Really glad this is coming to the collection, but this is another example of one that will be a skip for me since there is a (good quality) 4K of this out there. It may be a fruitless dream, but I really hope Criterion can join in with these other small/botique labels in releasing true 4K discs.

I mean, there’s really no reason to complain since UHDs are Region Free and it’s easy to import.

I think he's saying, in general, it would be nice if Criterion would jump on 4K. He's not really in the minority with that thought either.

Sure, but it makes more sense to complain about them releasing films that don’t already have a UHD release.

A 4K scan but no 4K disc??? WTF Criterion? Maybe I'll just import the StudioCanal release.

Personally, I would of preferred "The Straight Story". This is also Criterion's first Paramount-owned title in a while also I believe.

The Criterion can basically act as an extras disc for folks that aren't region-free to play the existing SC extras disc on the 4K release and/or never bothered picking up the old A+B disc.

I already have the SC box set, but I love this movie enough to double-dip. Decisions, decisions.

Criterion are in a league by themselves and that's what make them different than other distributors. If they started releasing 4K UHD blu-rays, they would no longer be a unique, they'll be just like everybody else.

So getting this!

Hard to believe it's been a long journey for this film to have it's place in Criterion since the planned laserdisc release.

In that case they should switch back to laserdisc and be REALLY different from everyone else.

It's interesting to see how people react to releases like this. There's been a few boutique releases that got a studio 4K release soon after (Waterworld) but now we're getting boutique Blu-rays after a studio 4K (Parasite). Seeing how people choose between picture quality, bonus features and brand loyalty. I can't imagine a situation like this before.

I don't import (even when the discs are region free) so I'd be happy with the Criterion release myself.

I had a twinge of regret for a few seconds, as I just ordered the Studio Canal 45 steelbook from Zaavi a couple of weeks ago.

However, that regret went away pretty quickly. The cover art of the steelbook and the Criterion release is identical, and the 4K picture quality should look like quite a bit better than Criterion's release.
