Hong Kong The White Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom 3D Blu-ray (2014) [Region A Locked]

Didn't find an existing thread on this 3D title I stumbled onto. Does anyone have a copy? How's the 3D, and is the movie any good? Thanks.

It's a remake (or adaptation of the same story) of The Bride With The White Hair (which I love) and has decent 3D, well worth a purchase. It's been a while since I watched it, so here's what I thought at the time:

Being a big fan of the original movie (Ronny Yu's The Bride With The White Hair) I wasn't expecting much from the remake, which I had heard nothing but bad things about. And indeed, it's a far inferior film. Fan Bingbing is no Brigitte Lin and there's so much going on in the first half that I found it hard going to follow.

That's the bad news out of the way. The good news is that Tsui Hark worked on this as an artistic consultant so it does look gorgeous in 3D (I haven't seen the 2D version, which isn't on the disc anyway).

The CGI and effects are more than decent (excepting some CGI snow) as is the 3D. A lot of it stays behind the screen but there was a fair bit of subtitle clash with pop-out elements too, I was often impressed by characters walking into the screen from outside it. The landscape shots had good depth, sometime making the actors look tiny - I love that kind of 3D. Object separation was also well above average, making it easy for me to recommend this one, for the visuals anyway.

I enjoyed the movie more than its reputation suggested. It's colourful, romantic, convoluted at times, and visually striking. The 3D is excellent -- not as strong as The Taking of Tiger Mountain, but I remember being very impressed.

Hi hdm, I really liked this one and was surprised it received such mixed reviews . Perhaps compared it to the original instead of letting this remake stand on it's own two feet. Have the original on old VHS.

Yes, I'd echo what others have said. I'm a big HK/Chinese movie fan going way back, so I figured it would be up my alley anyways. It's probably been over a year since I watched it, but I remember enjoying both the movie and the 3D and being happy I bought it.

You won't find any English dub tracks on any Hong Kong 3D movie, at least not on the Hong Kong disc (Iceman and Flying Swords Of Dragon Gate have dub options on their UK discs, but I'm not aware of any others).

They all have English subs though.

I watched this a couple of nights ago. The 3D was fairly good, but the plot was very confusing with lots of characters all trying to screw each other over, it was hard to keep track of what's going on at times. Saying that, I still enjoyed it a lot, and I preferred it to the original Ronny Yu version.

Had never gotten around to ordering this, so just did. Just $10 at dddhouse.com

They have a sale going on with several 3D titles, so also ordered Adventures In Zambezia 3D (2014), which looks like a decent animated title.

Picked up The White-Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom used for cheap on eBay, and glad I did. Some beautiful saturated colors and occasional strong 3D in this one. Mainly medium to medium-strong, with exotic locales and a fun story. There are lots of plot twists, but we were able to follow the story throughout. A few of the 3D shots were breathtaking. I’d definitely recommend this one if you haven’t seen it.

This an amazing movie indeed. There are still 4 copies available for a great price at https://www.dddhouse.com.hk/products...d-blu-ray-2014
