In response I would have to believe True!!!!
It is no secret that Disney are working on turning some of their older classics 3D and they have already done Beauty & The Beast and they announced that The Lion King would be getting the same treatment.
Lion King is due out on Blu in the fall anyway so why not release the 3D in the pack like they have with other Disney 3D movies.
However they choose to do these I will be picking up because some parts of Beauty And The Beast 3D have already been shown to a few people and their response was amazing!!!

I read last year that a 3D version of BatB was planned.

I will re-buy it yet again even if I may never get a 3D HDTV.

Nice! One thing I wish Disney would do, Is stop with the extra BD disc and just flag a 3D BD disc with whatever code it is so it would also play in a 2D machine too. I was hoping on my 3D Tv for Xmas but Santa couldn't afford it this year, but happily got a new A/V receiver that's all ready for 3-D!
I can't WAIT to be apart of the 3-D generation!

I was afraid to step into the 3D world just because I'm not sure about the steadiness of the technology and I don't want to spend too much for something that might even improve a lot more in a way I will regret.

But seeing these releases are coming up and also all the titles that have been released, I can't wait to buy a 3D TV, luckily i found a sony price on standalone 3DTV (Not coming with promo blu-rays and the player $1,200) to be quite cheap. It won't hurt to use this as a placeholder and enjoy the 3D while waiting for new things to come!

I'm getting the TV next week!!!

I was a little tempted on one of the Mits DLP sets, because of their low price tag and large screen as my " placeholder". Currently I have an older non 3-D ready Samsung DLP, which I just popped in a new bulb and am in love again with it. It was the last model before they starting shipping out their 3-D ready sets.. if only my CRT set lasted 2 months longer! I then started to look deeper into the DLP versions of 3-D TV's and feel that they need to really start making a better chip set that would finally end the wobulation to achieve 1080P and produce full 1080p 3-D instead of it's current half resolution per eye. I also keep wondering if 3-D without glasses will be here much sooner than expected for larger displays.

Congrats on your Sony!! envious!!

Glasses free TV is what i'm worried about, i mean, if it flawless i'll be glad but I still can't imagine how can it possible for pop-out 3D. I know the depth 3D will work fine.

The reason I get the sony is because my living room is not big so i don't need a large screen. it woudn't fit. lol.

Im skeptical of how 3D will work for hand drawn animation. Hand Drawn animation is 2D by its very nature. Sure Disney can separate characters from there backgrounds but the characters themselves have no depth to speak of so I don't see the point of 3D for them.

Regardless Ill be buying The Lion King on Blu-Ray no matter what so I welcome a 3D option and I hope to be dead wrong and the 3D will be a wonderful enhancement.

I'm pretty much all for 3D blu-ray but this is stupid.

I already have beauty and the beast, will not re-buy.

if this is the only version of lion king on blu-ray, i'll have to get it, but i don't see the point in converting 2D animation to 3D.

epic fail on disney's part

I don't see how anyone can say that this is an epic fail on Disney's part as some people have already seen clips from the 3D version of Beauty & The Beast and they said the experience was phenomenal as they did not believe that Disney could pull it off. Well Disney did pull it off and by all accounts it was amazing.
I'm all for being amazed too!!! Bring em on and I will get them both on day 1.
If anyone thinks it will be a fail then simply don't buy them.
Just wish I knew for sure when they would be out in the fall as later this year I am going to Orlando for 3 weeks and could buy them from one of the Disney Parks and take home with me back to UK.

There are lots of haters in the news page and I really wanna make it clear here...

I don't think anyone here has rights to say which are not meant to be in 3D,

Firstly Walt Disney wouldn't be upset for this 3D release since he was already passed away when these titles are released in theaters, with all respects, he might even hate the film himself, to talk about possibility.

The directors on the other hand are still alive and I'm sure The Disney Company already ask these directors for permission to do this, by this i meant to convert it to 3D.

by saying these are not meant to be in 3D is to shut down windows of possibilities.

Are you also saying Gone With The Wind / Wizards of Oz were not meant for Hi-Def viewing experience also,
since they both are 1.33:1 and one of them is black and white, I guess not?

So don't be so narrow-minded since it doesn't mean they won't release the 2D version as well.

I, too, am curious of how it would turn out to be like for 2D animations in 3D but i'm sure it has to work, or else they wouldn't risk it by announcing or releasing crappy stuffs.

3D is optional, no one forcing you to buy it, they didn't destroy 2D and make you buy everything 3D. Please remember that. So stop complaining about this being released in 3D. Remember when Snow White was release? Or Toy Story? none of the people think full length animation will work, but disney already did the impossible, I trust them on these releases.

I'm sure none of the haters will be saying these if they have 3DTV and praying for more 3D releases. These are treasures, new opportunities just like "BLU-RAY" was a couple years ago, when narrow-minded people still say Blu-Ray is a waste of money, why paying extra?

I am really looking forward to these releases by Disney.
I remember reading about these ages ago and someone at Disney said that to do one small scene and change it to 3D took absolutely ages because they wanted to do it properly.
They have probably been working on these for well a long time and will continue to work on them up until the release.
Disney are proud of their films and they dont want to f**k them up by rushing things. It is because of this I know they will be well worth the purchase and as said before... Day 1 for me on both!!
It is easier to transfer an animated film to 3D than a live action movie.
If your interested read this article.....

Lion King, Day 1. Well it was already Day 1, but this makes it even more interesting ... Not gonna rebuy BatB though. Made my wife a promise we wouldn't rebuy any flicks just for 3D.. which sucks cus we already own How to Train Your Dragon in 2D as well

Will buy The Lion King but whether I rebuy Beauty and the Beast depends on how this turns out. I want to see it with this for myself to see if 3D can enhance hand drawn animation. Color me skeptical but at the same time very interested.

When Beauty & The Beast was released on BD I got it from Netflix and used the 2D to 3D converter on my Samsung plasma on it. I was very impressed with the results and the overall look of the movie in 2D. I had heard that Disney was working on this previously so it and TLK will be welcome additions to my 3D library. 3D haters are just like those zombies in the latest Resident Evil movie. They can't wait to have something to feed on. I will be forever amazed at the amount of deep, deep seeded hatred that some have for 3D. I'll never be able to understand it.

+10000.

The haters don't want us who love 3D to see it in our preferred format? What kind of crap is that? Seriously??

Anyone that still uses the term "epic fail" is completely moot at this point. Embarrassing enough to completely negate any opinion one might have.

Nobody is forcing you to rebuy anything. Not to mention there will certainly be a non-3D version of The Lion King avalible. Likely we will get two combo packs. One with just 2D Blu-Ray and DVD and another with that plus digital copy and 3D Blu-Ray.

So even if the 3D version is a bust I don't think anyone is losing anything on this release
