I wonder why they opted to scan a 35mm internegative print, I always thought this movie was shot and finished digitally

This looks like a worthy upgrade, even if not for the 4K, but for the extras. I'm curious to see what Brandon cut out after Cannes. Apparently 6 minutes worth.

Excellent development. He’s a chip off the old block, a talented filmmaker like his old man, and this is a great newer body horror that probably made Pops proud as pudding. Count me in.

Is there a UK based online retailer where people tend to get US Severin releases? Or should I order it directly from Severin US?

I'll probably get this on sale sometime in the future or when the standard edition is released.

Probably the same reason movies like Villeneuve's DUNEs, Reeve's THE BATMAN, Finn's SMILE and others are doing it- to add a more authentic "film look" to digitally shot material.

Yes, I watched "Antiviral" for the first time yesterday.
It was Severin's 4K UHD and it looks great!
I am glad that it does not have the usual digital shot look.

I received my copy today, and just to confirm that this is a HDR release in DV with an AR of 1.78:1.

Two main audio tracks: English DTS-HD MA 5.1 and English DTS-HD MA 2.0 with English SDH subs only.

Video bitrate was up there, 90Mbps+ from the quick section that I sampled.

I like the sound of this. I'm painfully still waiting for my 4k copy to ship from Severin.

If the info on imdb is correct it sound to me (only saw this film now for the first time and it happened to be the 4K) that the film always was shot digital, a DI was created and that was printed to film.

So maybe the film print was also shown in cinemas and maybe also transfered to Blu-ray?

My favourite Cronenberg Jr. is Possessor, but this one is a fantastic piece of cinema, and might well be his most original film to date. I'm gonna have to get it.

WowHD, you can pay in GBP and it automatically charges VAT on top of the list price. Ordering directly from Severin you'll most likely avoid paying VAT (as long as your order is under £135). I'd check which ends up cheaper and go for that.

I ended up ordering it directly with a couple of other things.

Cronenberg Jr. doesn't seem to miss. Hot take I know, but I've preferred his (admittedly limited) output so far more than I have Cronenberg Sr., who I'm usually 50/50 on (as in I like some of his stuff and can take or leave others).

Regarding this release itself it's a lovely little package. Only watched the theatrical cut of the film so far so can't comment on the on-disc extras, but I did read the booklet, which was top notch. Refreshing to read a piece which is academic in nature (not some two-bit blogger), but doesn't spend all it's time polemicising. If nothing else it was just nice to read someone I've not encountered before, as opposed to some of the usual suspects (not naming names) who seem to be utterly omnipresent in the realm of physical media essaying.

Also goes to show that you don't need to release a hardbox set with a 'perfect bound book' (anyone else find that phraseology naff?) to be able to include substantial, worthwhile supplementary reading material.

Is there a rundown anywhere about the differences between the the theatrical cut and the Canne Cut?

Just watched this last night (the Theatrical as it's the only version in 4K) and it is just beautiful. I wholeheartedly agree with Jeffrey's 5 star rating in this site's review. Impressed a digital film could look this good. Kudos to Severin.

I am definitely curious about the Cannes cut but will have to wait a bit to check it out.
