Default The Amityville Horror (1979) 4K UHD coming from Vinegar Syndrome

The Amityville Horror 4K Blu-ray

Quote:
George Lutz, his wife Kathy, and their three children have just moved into a beautiful, and improbably cheap, Victorian mansion nestled in the sleepy coastal town of Amityville, Long Island. However, their dream home is concealing a horrific past and soon each member of the Lutz family is plagued with increasingly strange and violent visions and impulses. Fearing for their sanity, they consult with Father Delaney who realizes a dark supernatural presence has consumed the home and is attempting to propel the Lutz family into becoming its latest victims of unspeakable acts of violence...

One of the most acclaimed and terrifying horror films of the 1970s, director Stuart Rosenberg's (Cool Hand Luke) The Amityville Horror (TM) features powerhouse performances from James Brolin (Westworld), genre film icon Margot Kidder (Superman, Black Christmas), Rod Steiger (In the Heat of the Night), and cult star Don Stroud (Django Unchained). With a chilling screenplay by Sandor Stern, based on Jay Anson's best selling novel, and an unnerving score by Lalo Schifrin (Mission: Impossible), Vinegar Syndrome is proud to present the UHD debut of The Amityville Horror, stunningly restored in 4K from its 35mm original camera negative and featuring a comprehensive selection of new and archival interviews.

I don't quite get it, so is it a UHD and bluray combo pack or just the UHD?

One of the most boring and underwhelming horror movies I've seen. I did, however, like the sequel. Hopefully they will do that one.

Conveniently VinSyn put up some pics on the release page, including one that matches a caps-a-holic cap;

I could actually buy the Lutz house with the money I've spent upgrading from DVD > Blu-ray > UHD.

Adding another Blu-ray to the sell pile...

Yeah, it is a bit of clunker to be honest. I totally understand the criticism. A lot of my fondness for this film is purely nostalgic. I remember my mom buying it on VHS for like $3 at BiWay back in the late '90s and I thought the movie was terrifying. I find it much less so now, and I think the movie drags quite a bit in places (they could've easily chopped 20 mins out of it) but I've always loved Schifrin's score and I love the last 10-15 mins.

Glad there's some new interviews this time around as the extras for this movie have always been rather meh. Especially that dumbass commentary with pseudoscientist and parapsychologist Hans Holzer lol.

EDIT: And yes, the second one is def the best one.

I hope Amityville 2 gets a UHD release soon, ideally in time for its 40th anniversary.

It will ship this month. I think the confusion is around the new website layout they launched a few hours ago

I agree 100 percent with the sentiments that Amityville II: The Possession (1982) is the best Amityville film. That film totally creeped me out and scared the hell out of me when I first saw it.

I was thinking the same thing. In fact I thought about ordering the version without the slipcover and just trading it's place in the trilogy boxset.
