so how do you decide what's legit

there seem to be an endless amount of great sites and resources being posted on here lately, some of which are great, and through research seem to be very cool sources of blu's, but some you can find less then stellar reviews on and we all know there are scam sites floating around the net as well......

sooo...... how do you decide? before giving your credit card out on the net.

Start with the Better Business Bureau, Biz Rate, Consumer Reports, Reseller Ratings...any number of "consumer consensus" sites and accountability places like that.

i was checking those out but some had places like amazon listed extremely low, i understand any business is going to have unhappy customers so thats understandable, but some websites give me the impression they are the ones giving themselves the good reviews lol, does this happen.

Just stick with amazon.com, buy.com and ebay (with paypal of course). Being the victim of credit card fraud or identity theft is far more expensive than the couple of bucks you can save.

Like my friend always says, if you can sue them, you can do business with them. Look for a confimed address and company headquarters.

And remember when you see "customer reviews" and a "customer rating" that is a textbook example of self-selection bias in statistics. Thats when the individual chooses whether or not to be in the sample set. Most likely people with either extreme negative feelings or extreme positive feelings will take the time to write a review and assign a score.
