The first for me, just a solid tight action film. The sequels get more and more bloated (though I still enjoy them).

To me they all got progressively better with each installment, though I will say that 4 - as excellent as it is - doesn't quite reach the ballistic fever pitch 3 had.

Before 4, Chapter 3 was my favorite! Loved the ending of defending the Continental, followed by hand-to-hand, followed by a cool sword fight (I’m ALWAYS a sucker for well done sword fights: Blade, Lightsaber duels, Pirates, Highlander ).

For me, each is better than the last, so 4>3>2>1. And the original is a five star classic; guess Chapter 4 gets about 27 stars.

"But the first one is always the best!" in 99% of cases, that's true, but not the John Wick series.

It's the best one. Slick, stylish, visceral, fun and inventive, featuring great characters and memorable dialogue.

The sequels may be bigger, bolder and more ambitious, but none of them hits the bullseye quite the way the original movie does.

But I do appreciate the saga in its entirety.
