Synopsis

So that's why the Japanese set doesn't have subtitles! I'm gonna import instead and mux in my own. The Americanized title is so bad and the cover doesn't do it any favors.

You’re absolutely right. It’s an atrocious title after the wonderful How Do You Live? If you’ve seen the film in theaters, do you know if Shout / GKIDS localized the original Japanese titles and credits? If yes, we can count on the same when it comes to the disc.

Wow, this is a major surprise - I was expecting this would come out, but not in the same month as Japan! They usually take a while on letting these come out out of Japan. I'm glad to hear. Crossing fingers for a decent encoding. It'll be the only English friendly 4K UHD for a while.

As for this opening the floodgates for more classic Ghibli - I hope so! I've always loved how good the Ghibli movies looked in Blu-ray though they started degraining heavily the more time went on, which makes me very very afraid for the classic ones..

So this won't have the original Japanese titles? Are we reverting back to the Disney days of dubtitles and burned in credits? I think I'm gonna wait this out and see if an import gets the Japanese package with English subs.

Where are you getting this info from? All Ghibli BDs from GKids have had seamless branching, you get the English credits for the Eng dub, and Japanese credits if you watch Japanese with subs. I'm assuming this would be the same unless there's a change.

Yeah GKids have been pretty good at keeping the Japanese titles etc.
