Thumbs up What are some movies that u didn't like or understand as a teen/kid that you now like

I was watching Magnolia last night and I remember being very bored and not understanding what the point of the movie was when I was about 16. I enjoyed the movie a lot more this time. I notice things like acting and pacing and directing choices a lot more now. I probably won't watch it again but I am now going to watch Punch Drunk Love another that I really disliked to see if my opinion changes.

Another one was Blade Runner. I just thought it was slow and boring and now it's one of my favorites.

What movies do you enjoy more now that your tastes have matured?

No. But if I didn't like a movie then, why would I bother watching it now? There's too much else to watch to give me time to go back to movies I didn't like.

I usually lose interest in a movie as time goes on. So it's the other way around. I remember really liking Robin Hood (Costner) back in the day when i was younger. Now I can't stand to sit through it.

I agree there is always a ton of stuff to watch but in this case I always hear everyone praising PT Anderson movies. When they came out I was in my teens and I remember not liking them. I know my tastes have changed so I think it's worth revisiting stuff that might be good.

Yeah, I think this happens a lot.. In fact I think there are a couple threads about it. I remember watching Krull as a kid and thinking it was the most bad @ss movie ever. I watched it a couple months ago and was surprised how bored I was. I didn't even finish it.

I am just curious to see how peoples movie tastes change over time.

Good question. I would have to say 2001 because I never thought it was a big deal seeing it as a kid. Then, I got older and always heard people speaking of it as a "sci-fi classic" or a "masterpiece" so I watched it again. It was like watching it for the first time.

2001 A Space Odyssey and A Clockwork Orange are the first that come to mind. As a kid, I couldn't get into them. But now they are among my favorites.

a few that instantly come to mind...

2001: A Space Odyssey
Magnolia
Punch Drunk Love
Vanilla Sky
Blade Runner
No Country for Old Men

i didn't hate any of these upon first viewing, but definitely needed to watch a few times (or a few years later once i was older and "wiser") to understand everything about the films. when i was younger, i wanted action, explosions, loud noises and guns. i slowly but surely learned that not all films work with these 'requirements' and don't need them to be great.

my, my, my how childish i was as a child (play on words )

Almost all movies I have ever seen.
Its a fact, the more mature you are, the more deeply you understand whats going in the screen, thus, enjoying it more as well.

As a worshipper of Steven Spielberg since I saw JAWS at five, to then grow up over the next decade on a steady diet of CE3K, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, E.T., POLTERGEIST (hey, I'm counting it) and TEMPLE OF DOOM, I was struck completely cold by THE COLOR PURPLE, which was nothing like S.S.'s previous canon entries (even THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS had many more Spielbergian thrills and chills). Years later, I couldn't accept there could be a Spielberg film out in the world that I hated so I decided to reassess the film. Since I had a better idea what to expect, and realized that Spielberg was exercising a different, more adult creative muscle, I approached it from a more clean perspective (to coin a phrase from THE ABYSS, I watched it through better eyes) and fell in love with it. I think it's a marvelous, powerfully moving production all around now. The only Spielberg films I don't love now (though I have a liking for all of them) are 1941, EMPIRE OF THE SUN, HOOK and THE TERMINAL.

Still a teen, buuuuut I watched The Godfather a couple years ago and was bored to tears by it. I re-watched I and II several months ago and was completely in awe at how masterful they both were. They're two of my favorite movies now.

I've learned that I need to give a lot of films a second chance. I've come to love several films that I didn't understand or care for or when I saw them as a kid/teen. I've also come to love certain films that I had been disappointed in because I had certain expectations for or had seen a misleading trailer, etc.

I saw The Deer Hunter when I was around 19 and didn't really care for it, thought it was boring. Now that my tastes in film have grown a lot, I just saw it recently and fell in love with it, it's a fantastic film. I saw 2001: ASO last summer and it blew me away, whereas I'm sure if I had seen it 5 years ago I would've hated it. Before I saw Rescue Dawn in the theaters, I was fooled by the trailers into thinking it was an action movie (I don't watch many trailers anymore) and therefore was disappointed in the movie. I watched it again a few years later and loved it. Same thing with Shoot Em Up, wasn't expecting an over the top movie so I thought it was just ok. I watched it when it came out on blu and now I love it, it's an awesome guy flick

So I will always give something a second chance

I think when i first saw Aliens
i didnt understand anything really but the fact that they had this really Creepy Aliens..
and that this lady was a total badass named Ripley.. and the blood and gore was my favorite part..
and the action baddies and stuff

i didnt understand really what was going on but.. now that i see it again every once in awhile it makes more sense.

maybe a few of the Friday the 13th's and Hellraisers would be on this list for me.

The one that sticks out is The Godfather. Another one is Forrest Gump. When I was young I understood everything that was going on but as I grew up I really connected with it in an emotional way.
