Default Red Sun (1971) Charles Bronson, Alain Delon - Region A

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Red-Sun-Blu-ray/37158/

This is the first I heard about this release from Japan. Blu-ray.com stated it is Region A. I love this film and will pick it up in a second if it is in fact Region A. Has anyone heard anything about this release and/or where is the best place to buy Japanese blu-rays?

Edit - Is in fact region free!

Apparently YesAsia does have it or at least had it but I can't find the darn thing on their site.

For future reference, all Japanese releases are Region A, as they use the same region coding as N.A.

I haven't seen the movie, but based on the cast alone it has to be awesome. Bronson, Mifune, and Delon? I must see this.

You can find specs and screencaps over here. The release is actually region free. It was sold on yesasia.com last year for under $35 but I guess they don't have it anyhmore

I found it! It was under its original French name at Yesasia.com, "Soleil Rouge"

http://www.yesasia.com/global/soleil...0-en/info.html

and also at CDJapan

I have the Canal disc. It is very clearly from a nice HD master. Unlike the old R1 DVD, it is also in the correct aspect ratio.

Canal definitely have a good (done) master to work with in France.

The film is entertaining

Amazon JP has it also. Shipping is more expensive than the item ($19 for the disc, $20 for the shipping to the US), but you'd get it in about 5 days. Their shipping is pricey but very fast, and would get there quicker than CD Japan and Yes Asia's options.

CDJapan offers Fed Ex International Priority, which has a stated delivery of 1-3 business days. The total with that option is around $43. I also hear CDJapan's packaging is better than Amazon JP.

YesAsia has the best price plus Free International Shipping on orders for over 39$. For the total you will be paying with the other vendors you could get a second disc at YesAsia.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that, but YMMV as they say. Certainly CD Japan is a good option and a very reliable vendor. I've just found some titles much cheaper at Amazon JP than CD Japan over the last couple of years -- just depends on what you're looking at.

No matter what you do, the disc looks really good and is worth it!

OK so I went with YesAsia...Got Red Sun(of course) and grabbed Malena to get the free shipping. Also used the $3 dollar off coupon code for new customers so it came to $65 all together. Solid purchase for me

You wouldn't happen to have the Studio Canal DVD of Adios Gringo too would you Pro-B? I am thinking about picking that up next.

Guys I have a little problem here. I just got Red Sun in the mail today from YesAsia and it won't play on either of my BR players. In one player it just keeps trying and trying to load, spinning disc on screen and the other player says check disc. It doesn't say check Region Code like it does when I pop in a non region A disc but. Is there anything I might be missing here? Does anyone here have experience with Blu-rays from Japan that had playback problems. Would appreciate any help.

Hi Rififi,

I am sorry. I did not see your post above because for some reason my browser isn't highlighting some unread threads. I have a difficult time following everything. I have a French release from Canal, but it isn't this one (different cover):

http://www.amazon.fr/Adiós-gringo-G...s=adios+gringo

I have to check later on to see when it was released. (I don't know if the one pictured above is different or if it has imposed subs; if I recall correctly, my disc does not have imposed subs).

Japanese BD -- I will actually try to get a copy for review here. Perhaps you have to upgrade your firmware because there should not be problematic content there. Japanese discs do not have imposed PAL content. It is either a firmware issue or a bad disc.
