The horrors of war take on a whole new meaning for Vietnam vet Norman Hopper (John Saxon, Queen of Blood, Nightmare Beach), whose quiet domestic life in Atlanta is shattered by the return of his war buddy Charlie (Giovanni Lombardo Radice, House on the Edge of the Park), a combat veteran who dredges up terrifying flashbacks of flesh eating and bloodshed in the war-torn jungles. Now on the run from the law after taking a bite out of an unwilling victim, Charlie begs Norman to help him get out of town with another fellow veteran, Tom (Tony King, Report to the Commissioner, The Raiders of Atlantis). Soon the ragtag team of cannibals are fighting for their lives, spreading a deadly contagion through the city before heading into the sewers for a gut-wrenching climax no one will soon forget. One of the most infamous Italian horror films of all time, Cannibal Apocalypse is presented here, unrated and uncut. Upon its release, the film was heavily censored in many countries where it played under such titles as Cannibals in the Streets and Invasion of the Flesh Hunters. Directed by cult filmmaker Antonio Margheriti (The Long Hair of Death, Seven Deaths in the Cat’s Eye), Cannibal Apocalypse is not for the faint of heart or those with full stomachs!

Solid film and I'm happy to see another nasty hitting UHD. Also pleasantly surprised this has a not-too-distant release date considering Kino usually announce stuff about a century before they actually come out.

Good movie that I avoided for awhile because I thought it was an “Italian Cannibal movie” (yeah, I know it’s an Italian film that has cannibalism so it is that in a literal sense, but I thought it was more figuratively along the lines of Cannibal Holocaust/Ferox, etc.). No shade on those movies, they just typically aren’t my thing. Cool it’s getting an upgrade.

I've always really liked this movie and it's cool that it's getting the format bump, but honestly, these SDR UHDs from the same master on the BDs I already got a couple years ago are kinda hard for me to justify spending money on.

Has anybody received theirs? Curious of thoughts on the disc. Mine was posted today from WowHd but I'm in the UK.

What a fun little movie this was. Might just have to go pick it up during a sale or something.

Price not reduced during the current or just-ended Kino sale, so hopefully next time. Until then, patiently awaiting comparisons to the BD ...

Agreed. I hadn't watched this in some time. Gave it a spin about six months back, and really enjoyed revisiting it. I'd even forgotten that Giovanni Radice was in it. It's got gobs of late-70s vibe. I didn't hesitate to preorder the 4k from Orbitdvd as soon as it posted up.

Svet in a nutshell: already looked great on BD and still looks great here. Don't know how DV or UHD grade could improve it.

Ehhhh, I'm gonna need someone here to expand on that a bit before upgrading this ok-if-you-like-that-sorta-thing flick.

Received my copy today, can't comment on a comparison to the previous Blu disc as I don't have it.

Had a skim through and pleased to say it looks fantastic, beautifully vivid colours and incredible fine detail, even though it lacks HDR it really does shine.

Giovanni Lombardo Radice was a friend and I look forward to revisiting his performance in this one at the weekend.

It looks like its not worth the upgrade if the Blu-ray.com caps are representative of the detail upgrade. These two caps from Blu-ray.com of the 4K and 1080p are near indistinguishable, compression might even be better on the old blu-ray:

4K
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/scree...083&position=7

1080p
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/scree...632&position=1

But, as you are bypassing the player's dynamic upscaling you might get a slightly more organic picture on the 4K

You knew Radice?! That’s awesome. He was one of my favorite actors.

Hey, I messed up and forgot I got this as part of the Target sale, even though I got it from Atomic like a week or so ago. So now I have 2 copies. 1 sealed and 1 opened. I have listed my opened copy on my sale thread for $22 shipped in a bubble mailer in the US only. If someone wants the new one, I can do $25 shipped. If interested, send me a pm.

From the review:

"Please note that all screencaptures included with this article are taken from the 4K Blu-ray and downscaled to 1080p. Therefore, they do not accurately reflect the quality of the content on the 4K Blu-ray.

Yeah, but even so, I've seen 1080p discs much sharper than the 4K caps, and there is zero difference in contrast and color vs the Blu-ray. So I wouldn't expect any revelations with upgrading this disc, maybe worth picking up during a Kino Sale when the price is ~$15 or less
