An underrated movie. Hard to categorize in terms of genre. Somewhat of a thriller but far more dramatic and haunting in tone.

This should be good, I avoided all previous releases of this film because they were half-assed cash-in jobs.

Yes I agree. Deserving of a 4K release although wishful thinking on my part.

And this will be the same, an outdated old master, unless all you care about it meaningless extras. After a strong start, Imprint has been massively disappointing with using existing transfers that look terrible. Day of the Locust was an absolute travesty and a complete waste of money.

Just quoting myself for posterity in regards to the German title cards on the Madman:

Expecting this to be the same.

It's part of the horror genre.

I'll most likely give this a buy. I've got the Madman/Viavision release but I love the packaging on this.

I'll be happy enough with lossless audio and a lack of random German subtitles. The old Via Vision release had plenty of extras, that was never the issue.

How did they have a strong start? They did the same thing with Sorry Wrong Number (also arguably made it worse) and that was in Wave 1.

Good film! I have an old Aussie local DVD release.
I really wanted to get the ViaVision bluray but just missed it. I'm actually surprised they are claiming in the Imprint press release that this is a worldwide first bluray when it was Viavision themselves who released it a couple of years ago!

I really, really hope that Via Vision is dragging this one out again because they sourced a better HD master without the burnt-in German subtitles... I mean, most of us called them out on the German subtitles, so you'd think they wouldn't be dumb enough to do it again...

Right?

Right?!?

Anywho, holding out for a canary to grab this one and report back.

Pre-ordered from Deep Discount. With their 15% off coupon, I shaved a hair over $5 off the price, plus with Paypal funds, managed to get it down to $22 and change. Can't wait to own this.

Audio is lossless this time, presumably the DD track from the old one was all they could get when porting the German master, so by that logic it should be an entirely different encode surely.

I emailed them about the transfer, here is their response:

"Unfortunately, I do not have further details of the picture quality for our The Mothman Prophecies release at this stage but should know more closer to its release date on the 31st of March."

Waiting for Diabolik to put this up for preorder. I could go with Deep Discount but they drag their feet too long. I don't care if it's an old master - as long as it's coming to Blu-ray. Maybe Shout will put it out at some point but I don't feel like waiting.
