I’m sure that I’ll be watching it at some point.

I saw Absolution in theaters today. It’s just a very slow drama and I was very bored. I didn’t watch trailers or anything. I wasn’t expecting constant action but when you’re 80 minutes into a 110 minute movie and the ‘call to action’ hasn’t happened yet…oof.

If you just want to watch a slice of life movie about an aging gangster with not much to do, this is for you.

4.5/10

Watched this today as well. It's serviceable Liam Neeson. Has some interesting stuff, but it's not a grand slam at all. Likely not something you'd watch a 2nd time unless you missed a scene or two.

This is the third
[Show spoiler]dangerous old man losing his memory
film I've seen in the past few years. Neeson played a similar character in Memory and Michael Keaton gave it a shot in Knox Goes Away. Absolution was the least enjoyable. Ron Perlman was wasted in this (and he also made his own old man gangster film a few years ago, The Baker). I hadn't seen the trailer but was hoping for more than what I was given.

This is a strange one. An unhappy mash up of noir, drama, crime and a late burst of geriaction. Moland has done much better, A Somewhat Gentle Man, In Order Of Disappearance and its remake Cold Pursuit (with Neeson).

The best ageing gangster movie for me is The Friends of Eddie Coyle with Robert Mitchum. Check it out if you haven’t seen it.
