Does anyone else here sometimes struggle to choose which edition of a film to buy when there are multiple exclusive special editions?
A recent example is I’m struggling to decide which of these 3 versions of John Wick 4 to buy https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/John-...lu-ray/336164/ Lenticular slip & exclusive bonus disc https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/John-...lu-ray/337092/ HMV first edition with 12 art cards and 24 page book with write-ups and photos https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/John-...lu-ray/336165/ Limited Collector’s Edition with 12 art cards, map and pin What things do you like in particular in terms of bonus goodies? A bonus disc with exclusive extras? A nice booklet with detailed write-ups and photos? Posters to get framed and put up on the wall? Last edited by DisneyDreamer2023; 03-18-2025 at 10:24 PM. |

I usually don't get the exclusives and then rue it after they've gone and are fetching silly money from scalpers. Arrow's Creepers edition of Phenomenon, for example.
I did get the website exclusive of Dragon Fist, though, and love it, so there's a lesson there. |

On-disc extras are what I usually care about the most, then various books and booklets, then slipcases, and the rest I don't really care about much in most cases. But I don't mind buying multiple releases if it's something I really care about..
When it comes to things like multiple cover choices, sometimes I'll spend several minutes deciding which one to get, but it's not something that I lose too much sleep over (and I'll go for the cheapest option more often than not). |

I'm not a Tat edition guy, so whatever suits my bank balance best.
Sometimes I look at what ya'll buy and think you are all rich or you don't eat for 2 weeks of the month Or perhaps the area I live in is just bloody expensive to live we can't afford to buy anything |

If it has a nice booklet and exclusive extra's, mostly yes. Most of the times it's like 5 quid more expensive. For that price it's nice to have something nice looking on your shelf. I don't really care for the warner editions, it's just some extra photo's.

As a rule I couldn't care less about boxes of tat, unless there's something special in there.
It's disc content that's always my concern - like I'll ensure I get a LE if it has a bonus disc I want. Not for modern movies mind - I find their bonus material is just fluff in the main! I also got sick of tricks like having deleted scenes and other bonuses exclusive to various retailer versions (like Star Trek Into Darkness), so I don't want to support that type of milking crap when you need multiple copies to get everything. One good thing about the decline of physical media as mass market is that such types of retailer exclusives are now rarer, and it's the just packaging that gets exclusives. |

Generally I'll buy the cheapest option (assuming film quality is equal across all editions). It would have to be a very special piece of tat to make it worth my paying extra.
In theory I could buy all editions and then sell off all but one once they're OOP for a tidy profit, but the few times I've tried in practice, it has never worked for me. It turns out that selling things is work, and I don't want to spend my time off work working. |

Short answer: I'll pick the standard version every time, given the option.
Longer answer: Shit happens when you're on eBay at 3am and have all sorts of crazy finance options at your disposal. Sellers suddenly dropping the price on something you've been looking at, is the Internet version of shops that have confectionery near the till points. Gimme! |
