A few important things to know about this edition:

- LSP-Medien has made a new HDR/Dolby Vision grading based on the 4K master, which should probably top the US disc.

- The sound of the Director's Cut was based on a optical sound that was quite broken and had real noise and a significant drop in quality, especially at the end. This sound was available on the US disc. We have completely renewed this and now have a crisp stereo sound that is in no way inferior to the great audio of the theatrical version.

- The edition contains the DIRECTOR ́S CUT on UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray as well as the theatrical version on Blu-ray.

- We have all the extras of the US disc + an extensive picture gallery and a new audio commentary with director Martin Walz and effects artist Jörg Buttgereit. Both recorded an audio commentary in German for the first time.

- There are completely new German and English subtitles for both film versions. The previous ones were more than just flawed. There are German and sometimes English subtitles for the extras. The English subtitles are also new and are not based on the US edition, as there were many translation errors here as well.

- For now, the mediabooks will only be available SHOP-EXCLUSIVE. Due to the enormous costs for license, master, material and rework, it is no longer possible otherwise, but there are some goodies for that.

We spoke about it again a few days ago when we were having a chat with director Martin Walz. Then we found a VHS tape in the old, creepy catacombs of Berlin. It was dated 12 June 1996 and it had the last Workprint of the film on it. Let's be honest, what are the chances of finding a rough cut of a film in a storage box after 30 years?

This version of the film is still almost 14 minutes longer than the director's cut and contains a lot of previously unreleased footage, especially in the second half. It also contains different versions of scenes and the famous special effects scene in which a killer condom spits out a penis!

Yes, we have it!

For the last 30 years, there has been a lot of talk and even more speculation about this scene, but no one outside the crew has ever seen it.

This version is a real treasure for all fans of alternative cuts.

Fans of Jörg Buttgereit are in for a treat, as there are even more special effects scenes that didn't make it into the film.

All of the edited 35mm material was destroyed, so this is the only surviving document of its kind. We will now keep it for future generations.

The whole thing is in VHS quality with timecode, without the final music mix, with the original voices, etc. Keep it RAW and EXTRA HARD!

Since Cover B and E are very slow sellers, Wicked Vision will adjust limited numbers of each Cover. So if you prefer one of these covers you may want to get them now.

I pre-ordered Cover D as I am big fan of Rockin' Jelly Bean's art. Vinegar Syndrome's 4k UHD was really nice, but Wicked Vision's 4k UHD also having Dolby Vision, improved soundtrack for the director's cut, more accurate subtitles, a workprint included, and being encoded by LSP Medien were factors for a purchase.

I got around to seeing this. It looks absolutely stunning. LSP Medien did a great job on the 4k UHD. Vinegar Syndrome's 4k UHD looked fine, but Wicked Vision's encoding is even better. The Dolby Vision is extremely well done. Details, grain, and colors are all solid. I haven't gotten around to seeing the dvd workprint version, but I will at some point. As for the film, it's terrific. There are elements of John Waters and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Highly recommended for fans of the film as well as adventurous film watchers.
