Question Muddy Dialog

My HT sound system is 7.1 POlk Audio that I inherited when I bought my new home. (it came with the house) It's great, but at times the dialogue is "muddy." Turning up the volume helps somewhat, but the Yamaha receiver I run it through has so many audio setup selections that make it cumbersome to try out every one in an effort to find what might make the dialogue clearer.

Anyone know what specific setting I might tweak, or is the issue in the initial production from the studio?

Or maybe, the Polk Audio speakers are the issue, except that the muddiness doesn't occur in ALL movies.

In order to help you better, a picture of your setup, model number of the Yamaha and the Polk speakers you inherited.
