Wow, that's not a release I would have expected. Quite pleased though.

This will also get a release in Germany. Same Steelbook with English title on spine. Only J-card in German.

The UK release will still have minor cuts to horse falls, if having it uncut is important to people.

It’d be interesting to know if UK buyers could circumvent the cuts by selecting either France or Germany in the menu. I can’t imagine SC doing a UK-only disc when they have the rights in all three territories.

StudioCanal have produced different discs for films they own in multiple territories before, like with The Lost City of Z, Logan Lucky. Occasionally different extras are available through different menu screens, like with Total Recall BD.

I thought this was going to be a LCQF?

Thanks for the info about horse falls.

Kino put this on on BD in North America. Too bad they seem to be a mess now as far as encoding goes. I guess I should assume a potential US will be a mess.

Didn't SC also produce a UK only release of Rambo 3? which was also BBFC censored for horse trips.

Ended up getting the SC German release which was UK friendly and uncut.

SC did finally release Cutthroat Island uncut in the UK with latest UHD, but that was BBFC censorship for violence and tastes change for rating of that over time.

The problem with animal cruelty is the BBFC are legally required to cut in the UK under archaic legislation here. Something other countries don't care about but no Government here is ever likely to repeal the legislation to remove the need for cuts.

Compulsory Cuts were required for illegal horse falls and potentially indecent images of a child. Cuts were made in accordance with BBFC Guidelines, policy, the Cinematograph Films (Animals) Act, 1937, and the Protection of Children Act 1978.
The cut horse falls are to be expected, but indecent images? Is that new?

Regardless of what the cuts are they should be able to be avoided by selecting the German or French option via the menu.

German and French Blu's were uncut I believe.

Not necessarily.

For Rambo 3, Studio Canal had to produce a UK specific cut disc.

What you suggest is what years ago Fox did for Conan the Barbarian. Select non-English and you got film uncut whilst the English was compulsorily BBFC censored.

Guess Fox didn't do themselves any favours by leaking online the workaround and how to see the film uncut.

Obviously the BBFC read this, as when repressed Fox where required to release a UK only disc which only had our censored version. The ability to watch uncut if selecting other countries had been removed.

No only U.K. cut and it is compulsory here, so no way Studio Canal can not make cuts.

The cuts are required under the U.K.’s animal cruelty laws for cinema which were then extended to video. Have been in place for decades.

No other country IIRC has similar law.

Issue with historic films like this is no way the paperwork exists to prove the animal cruelty didn’t exist on set when filming. Although for Westerns back then film companies didn’t give a shit and given U.K. was only market bothered by it they didn’t really care as the film could be cut for here and uncut elsewhere.

Don't know about UK Rambo 3, but the UK got its own censored "Angel Heart" 4K from StudioCanal at any rate. So yup, not necessarily and I actually wouldn't expect it. Especially since the BBFC appears to be rather rigid about this stuff as we've just seen with "The Abyss".

And as I note in post just above with Fox's Conan the Barbarian. In that case Fox were caught bending the rules although as it was "hidden" they were only forced to comply at the next disc pressing rather than do a recall and replace in retail.
